We eat Asian food about 5-6 days per week and travel the country full time so we know good food when we taste it. Of course a 5 star rating goes beyond just the taste of food such as quality, quantity, ambiance and service. I will say exceptional service for me is one of the top priorities. When a person makes their patrons feel like they are the most important customer in the room, it can make a lasting impression and get return customers. For this place the service was ok but not exceptional. We gave them the benefit of doubt however because they tried and were very friendly however there was a Halloween event in the area and it was pretty busy. They managed to check on us once during our meal and when we asked for the check we had to wait for quite awhile for it.
The ambiance was very nice inside and the food was very fresh and presentable. They even carved carrots to look like Lotus flowers and the lemons on the water into birds or something. Very cool and creative. Those were it for the positives however.
The food was not good Thai food and I believe that was due to it being more of a Japanese restaurant than Thai. Most Thai restaurants ask you what spice level you want. This place did not and the food was very bland and had zero spice to it. We had the Ginger with Shrimp, the Cashew Chicken and Tom Kai soup. The soup was one of the worst Tom Kai soups I’ve ever tasted. The main courses were extremely bland. The Cashew Chicken said it came with a light brown sauce however you could see the ouls in it allowing me to believe it was made like a broth. Not a sauce. For the food quality it was very expensive and not worth the money. Most Thai restaurants offer the soup in a large pot or individual bowls. This place only offered small single serving bowls but the price for 1 small bowl was about the same price we would pay for a large pot to share elsewhere. The quantity for the main courses was fair however. Based off our experience here, we will not return. Our choice was to go to another asian restaurant in the area called Song’s based on the reviews but we learned they were not open on Thursdays so we settled for this place instead...
Read moreNot a good experience. The hours on their website and their door say that they are open until 9pm. We showed up at 8 thinking we would have time for a nice dinner. When we got there the waitress said that they are closing in 10 minutes, i asked "dont you close at 9?" And the lady said no the kitchen closes in 10 minutes but we could still order and sit until they close. So we decided to do that.
Mind you, this wasnt an empty restaurant that looked like it was closing. There were still 6 or so couples waiting for their food and ordering. The whole thing felt very rushed and it seemed odd considering the people who were there still hadnt eaten yet either.
The food was ok. Nothing special about it. The miso soup had some flavor that made my mouth so dry I couldn't drink it. I ordered a sushi roll and the serving they gave me was just this very plain roll, 6 small pieces, all of which could have fit into the palm of my hand, for $16 no less.
Then they rushed us out by 8:40. It would be one thing if the food was actually decent but it wasnt and considering the price for the portions that wouldn't even have been filling for the average person it was just an all around unenjoyable experience. If you close at 8 change your posted hours to 8?? Not some weird thing about closing the kitchen an entire hour early. Because it seemed like we weren't the only ones confused. Not to mention this was a weekend night. You would think a restaurant that serves alcohol could stay open a little bit...
Read moreI'm doing a PHO only review. Because I'm a pho master and literally ate Pho for breakfast this morning in Denver... and reviewed that place as well.
Many people claim to understand what makes tastey proper pho, but it's my experience that about 95% of people reviewing pho are clueless.
Let me tell you about this pho.
It's average at best. Seriously. This is an honest impartial review. If you don't know good pho you're likely to leave a review for this establishment at 5 stars... because you don't know any better.
The broth tastes similar to boxed supermarket pho broth. It has hints of proper pho broth but in reality falls very short of good proper pho broth. Now... this place IS NOT a pho place, and so I'm willing to concede they do sushi etc much better. Proper pho broth takes hours to make and requires proper spices and bones etc etc. Either they are doing it wrong here, or, they dont have the time or customers that require a good broth. The place itself is very nice and service appears top notch and the place is packed and they are running their feet off and they are exceptionally friendly so i rate the atmosphere and service highly.
Just because their pho isn't that good is no reason to assume they can't do other things on the menu. You come here and try and leave your review of their other food because unless they change their broth there is no point in reviewing the pho any further. I left my experienced phopinion here. 3/5 stars. ...
