I am in LOVE with this place. Cute rooms, great atmosphere, and relatively friendly staff. I’ve so far had a wonderful stay here, but last night was not as pleasant as the rest of my time here has been. A date and I went down to the bar next to the lobby to listen to music and grab a drink. We stood at the bar for probably close to ten minutes without the bartender even acknowledging us. He was joking with friends at the bar and cleaning glasses, never even glanced our way (we were standing right in front of him). My date had to awkwardly try and get the bartenders attention and when he finally succeeded, the bartender had a terrible attitude when taking our order. After we got the drinks, we returned to our seats. I took a couple of sips of my wine before noticing a bit of food stuck to the outside of the glass. I’ve worked in many restaurants before so I understand that sometimes pieces of food stick to dishes, even when they have been cleaned. I thought nothing much of it until I saw a bit of food also floating in my wine. My date offered to take it back to the bar and get a new glass, and he stood at the bar waiting for a RIDICULOUSLY long time. The bartender was once again talking with friends at the bar so I decided to go up and try to help get his attention. I said “hey man” a few times to try to get his attention and finally had to shout “HEY MAN”. I explained “there’s a little bit of food in my wine, Can I get a new glass?” trying to be calm and kind because honestly I just didn’t want to deal with this guy’s attitude anymore. But his response was a dirty look accompanied by “I find that very hard to believe, but okay”. As if I was lying to him? Trying to con him out of a glass of wine even though my current glass was more than half full? I was honestly astonished by his rudeness. He then checked out the glass, his friend at the bar ALSO looked at the glass, and when they both agreed that, yes in fact there was some food floating around in my drink, the bartender got me another drink, but kept his terrible attitude. I left the bar feeling extremely frustrated.
I don’t usually leave reviews because I’ve been on the other end of them before. People have bad nights, I get it. But I don’t think there is ever a reason for anyone to ignore and then act condescending to their customers. Especially when those customers are trying their best to be accommodating and kind. But yeah...this guy was just plain rude and awful to us. I don’t want to return to the bar for the rest of my trip, even though the drinks are spectacular. I would hate to run into Mr “I find that very hard to...
Read moreI was camping in northern New Mexico when I faced a health situation. I had to go into Taos to pick up a prescription, and a family member generously offered to get me a hotel/motel room for the night. I was supposed to end up at the Quality Inn, but they apparently sold the last pet friendly room just as my family member made the reservation online. After two hours of working things out with Booking(dot)com, my family member told me I had a reservation at the Historic Taos Inn.
Wow! Despite the medical situation, it was my lucky night. It sure was a pleasure to stay at the Taos Inn.
The lady who checked me in was super nice and called me "my dear." When she realized I had my dog with me, she moved me to a downstairs room, so it would be easier to take the dog out at night if necessary. She explained checkout to me and was exceptionally kind to me when I really needed some kindness.
I stayed in a room with two twin beds in the main building. The room was interesting, with Southwest flair. The mattresses were on what seemed to be adobe platforms. I wondered if they would be comfortable, and the one I slept on certainly was! Instead of being side by side, the beds were head to head in the corner against two adjoining walls. It was visually interesting.
The room was very clean. The bathroom was very clean too, and there were plenty of towels. There was a closet full of amenities too: two extra blankets, a fan, a space heater, an ironing board, and an iron.
FYI, this room did not have a microwave or a refrigerator.
I took my ice bucket to the Adobe Bar to get some ice. The bartender was very nice and personable and thanked me for staying there.
Complimentary coffee and tea are available in the "library" in the mornings. That was nice, but having some pastries and/or muffins available for guests each morning would be even nicer.
The checkout process went smoothly, and the young man working the desk that morning was very helpful.
I really enjoyed my night at the Historic Taos Inn and not just because it felt good to take a long, hot shower and sleep in a real bed during my time of health problems. It was nice to spend time in such a safe and...
Read moreOur stay was for five nights. We stayed here because it was close to the plaza and the reviews seemed fair. On our first night, we kept getting horse flies in our room and we couldn't figure out where they were coming from. Texted the front desk and they said maybe from the AC unit. I was able to tolerate this hiccup but the next day when my sister woke up, she turned on the light and noticed a MOUSE on the top railing of a chair around 6:35am. We were SHOCKED! Two women in a room with a mouse! And when we called the front desk for help, they said no one could assist us until 8am when maintenance gets there. I requested a refund so we could find another hotel, instead they did upgrade us to a nicer room (in the same area as before). The new room although larger had a very bad AC unit. The previous room was cooler. We left the AC on high so that it could cool but it just kept the room warm. I finally figured out part of the problem was the "heater" in one of the rooms was emitting heat. When maintenance finally came around 9:30 at night, they did confirm the pilot light was still on even though front desk assured me they were all turned off in May for the season. My sister's room also had a heater and it kicked on the only morning where it was finally cool. This was weird and uncomfortable in the room. I would have liked to have been moved to a completely opposite area or given a refund to find another hotel. They were polite and apologetic but the reason for this review is to warn guests that although the Inn is historic and older, I would have like to have been forewarned about a rodent problem. I do think this is an issue at this hotel because they do like to leave trash bags overnight in a back area very near rooms and I even took photo to share with front desk. This inn has so much potential but came up short in AC, rodent, no ice machines, and very hot lobby where they had fantastic musical acts but in stifling heat....
