Hulman Center — Attraction in Terre Haute

I wanted to take my son to a college basketball game, and we were somewhat agnostic as to the teams since Illinois was playing at Wisconsin that Saturday and I was not going to drive all the way to Madison. Anyway, Butler and Indiana were both at home and the cost of both were more than I was willing to pay to see either of those games.

I widened my circle a little and saw that Indiana State was playing Northern Iowa. When I looked, every available seat in the lower half of the place was $24 and in the upper half they were $7. It had been a while (decades) since I had been to the Hulman Center, it has obviously been renovated since then, and the refresh appeared to be quite fresh. It was well done.

With the 90 minute drive from Zionsville, I figured I had $100 in depreciation, $35 in gas, and $65 in the tickets (with fees). That was much less than one ticket to see Butler (who isn't very good this year) or Indiana when I looked. There wasn't much at all that my family liked about the Hulman Center. We purchased tickets to see a hometown act. They were a Christmas gift for our children. The sound in the Hulman Center was awful! We had seats in section JJ and couldn't understand one word during the concert. I tried to talk to people at the Hulman Center about it and they didn't care. They even told me they weren't sure why concerts were still booked there because the acoustics are awful. I feel like I was robbed of my money. Great place to watch ISU basketball. They have lots of other events as well, But currently they are doing some much needed remodeling. Bathroom had several "out of order" signs on the stalls and urinals and the lights. Had more burnt out than on. So it was rather dark. I'm sure that will all change with the remodel.
