Indiana Theatre 🎭🎶 The Indiana Theatre is an awesome historical #theater located in downtown Terre Haute, Indiana. 🇺🇸 Built in 1922 and designed by famous architect, John Eberson, the Indiana is unique as the world’s first example of an “atmospheric theatre.” Atmospheric theatres became popular in the #1920s and were designed to transport patrons to a specific time and place. The Indiana was built to emulate the region of Andalusia in Spain with its Spanish and Moorish designs. 🇪🇸 Over the years, the Indiana has been used for vaudeville, cinema, and performing arts. Entertainers like Frank Sinatra, Red Skelton, and Lucille Ball have performed here. 🎤 Theaters like this were a common feature in many American cities, but unfortunately so many have been torn down over the years. Thankfully this theater survived and has just undergone a new restoration. 🖌️ I was so lucky to find this place and score a spontaneous tour. If you’re ever visiting Terre Haute, Indiana, I highly recommend checking this place out! #historytok #historytiktok #HistoryTime #TikTokLearningCampaign #EduTok #cool #interesting #vintage #creatorsearchinsights

There’s seems to be very few buildings left from the earlier years The Indiana Theatre is a historic theater in Terre Haute, Indiana. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 1997 and is located in the Wabash Avenue-East Historic District. It opened on January 28, 1922. The theatre was built by Terre Haute resident T. W. Barhydt and was designed by John Eberson. Eberson, who later developed the atmospheric theater style of movie palace, first experimented with atmospheric design elements at the theatre. Eberson stated, "Into this Indiana Theatre I have put my very best efforts and endeavors in the art of designing a modern theatre such as I have often pictured as what I would do were I given a free hand. From photos looks an interesting building to go inside and enjoy for any event.

Seating is not very nice - quite old. Little things are inconvenient- like: why do they have 10 front doors and, literally, only one is unlocked? No sign. Why not sell tickets from the ticket booth instead of a card table? Everything is kind of run down - but the dance recital we went to was $25 a ticket. That might not be their fault. Lighting was bad - dancers in the back row were in shadow. Sound was OK. Parking is street or in the garage down the block.

Wow, beautiful theater! Even upon walking up you can see it's beautiful styling in the marble and ticket window. Just inside is an amazing, beautiful dome entry foyer. Concessions sold at a folding table (weird). Once inside it is interesting. There's a lower terrace level with tables for groups. And for certain events bar service. Then there are seats low & close to the screen in what is probably an orchestra pit. Going up from there, are angled seating. This place was doing stadium seating, since before stadium seating was cool. Not perfectly comfortable seats or cup holders, but good views and a truly beautiful theater as a whole. Very enjoyable, bordering on elegant. Worth checking out pretty...
