I joined World Gym in November 2024 with the goal of signing up for personal training. The signup process was straightforward, and I committed to a year-long contract at 2 sessions per week at $100 weekly.
At first, things were fine. My initial trainer’s style wasn’t exactly what I preferred (more HIIT vs. my powerlifting background), but it still met part of my goals. Over time, though, professionalism became an issue; personal calls during sessions, doubling me up with other clients, and even complaining to me about having to be there during one of my sessions due to his personal issues. I decided to schedule with another trainer which caused some awkwardness since a portion of trainers’ pay depends on their sessions, and he let me know that by telling me I was “cutting into his paycheck”
I ended up switching to training with Stephen Fuller. And this was the highlight of my experience during my training contract. Stephen was outstanding!! He was professional, knowledgeable, motivational, and invested in my goals. He explained the “why” behind every workout and went above and beyond. He got to know my issues while lifting so he could point them out to ensure I wouldn’t sustain long term injury and checked in frequently during sessions to make sure things like my knees never hurt. Unfortunately, he left shortly after ownership changed, along with another trainer.. After that, consistency and availability have become a major problem. New trainers have come and gone quickly, leaving me without steady guidance while I still have to pay under contract.
Here are the main points of issue for me:
*You are locked into this contract even if trainers leave or sessions aren’t available. You can only cancel with 2 months notice or a confirmed medical issue. *Paid sessions can be used later, but this defeats the purpose of consistent progress. *Once the contract ends, it automatically turns into a month-to-month contract. BUT Even once it’s month-to-month, you must give TWO MONTHS NOTICE to cancel. *Even though you are a client of the gym and not the trainer- the trainer has a vested interest to keep you on their schedule, and for certain personality types, moving to other trainers may be difficult or feel awkward. The trainer also generally schedules you after each session. I wasn’t made aware of any way to schedule myself until more than half way through my contract. This may prevent some from exploring trainer options for a “best fit”
On the positive side, the group classes have been GREAT! I’ve especially enjoyed the Reach for It Challenge led by Jessica Arceneaux, which has been motivating and fun! The gym itself is nice size, clean and rarely is there issues where the cleaning wipes are out.
Bottom line: If you’re joining for general gym use or classes, this might be a good fit. But if you’re considering personal training, be very aware of the contract terms and the risk of...
Read moreOverall I’ve had a great experience but I think there’s room for improvement at this gym. My negative experiences are the training sales guy and a one time issue with childcare staffing.
I would forewarn you to not accept the free training session unless you’re willing to go through the pressure of signing a training contract. The sales guy was friendly, but definitely pushy and oversold some features of their training program (i was told even if I signed up for only one day of training per week, I’d be provided with a workout routine for the rest of the days - never happened). He also made it seem like he was going to be the trainer, so this was a “try out” to see if I agreed with his training techniques and philosophy. Once I signed up, I was assigned to a random trainer. On the flip side of that, my random trainer is Stephen and I’ve been really happy with our sessions! Stephen is awesome, motivating and seems to really know his stuff. I actually think Stephen ended up being a better fit for what I was looking for than the initial guy but if I hadn’t been paired with a great trainer it definitely would’ve felt like a scam/ bait and switch. I would’ve regretted signing up had it not been for the positive experience I’ve had with Stephen.
For childcare, I love the people working there! They’re always friendly and my kids have a good time. My major negative experience was today when they were understaffed and couldn’t operate the childcare at full capacity. That meant any parents coming in with their kids were turned away. They told me they had already turned away several parents and while I was there, they turned away 4 more. For paying $140 a month and charging per child, not being able to operate their childcare dept and provide services due to an unexpected staff call out is unacceptable. I’ve never had that happen to me at a gym and it seems like they would have a back up plan for a staff call out. I hope this isn’t a recurring issue here because childcare is #1 for me and if anyone else has toddlers you know that just getting to the gym is a huge hassle. Getting there and then being turned away is very frustrating.
Other than those concerns, I’ve loved working out here. The space is huge, clean and I rarely have to wait...
Read moreI joined World Gym back in August 2022 and began my training sessions through them. Investing in World Gym trainers led to me living with an improved life without back pain, increased stamina and physical strength with the help of my former trainers Josh, Preston and current trainer Stephen. Each trainer is diverse in their skillset and taught me proper body mechanics that has exponentially transformed my current physical strength. I am grateful for Trainer Jay for sharing his knowledge of body stretching before I begin my powerlifting routines. I appreciate that when I asked to be taught advanced training of deadlifting and Olympic lifting each trainer has been able to. I have complete trust in my trainer Stephen who continues to guide me safely in such advanced training I feel that I am unlocking greatness within me!
