Went to Brick & Spoon today with high expectations however I was completely dissatisfied with my visit. First would like to start out by saying that I ordered their Irish coffee and a coke from them. The Irish coffee was disgusting and I’ve never had a Irish coffee ever with creme de menthe in it. Secondly the coke I ordered was sickening sweet; so much so I couldn’t drink it. For food I had ordered the banana foster beignets. I was so disappointed when those were brought out because they looked like doughnut holes, and were dense. Anyone who is from Louisiana or has visited New Orleans knows that beignets are square, airy doughnuts. And to add on to that they were so sweet from the sugary sauce on them that it was inedible. My mother had gotten the bananas in pajamas and she was also disappointed. As someone who came from the island she grew up eating these egg rolls made with plantain so she assumed they would be like that. Unfortunately they were wrapped in a thick egg roll wrapper instead of a lumpia wrapper, and they used regular banana instead of plantain causing it to be mushy. They also drenched it in the same sauce as the beignets were in and she as well said it was too sweet. My father had eggs, grits, and a biscuit and he said even that wasn’t good. He said the grits were the consistency of mashed potatoes, the eggs just didn’t taste fresh, and the biscuit was hard. Ultimately just very disappointed and with my total coming out to over $60 I can say it definitely wasn’t worth it. Hopefully they change their cooking tactics for the better. But till then I...
Read moreWas excited to find out there was a new place to check out close by. Check the menu it looked interesting place was very clean and fresh and new. Ordered the biscuits and the honey better to start they came out very hard and cold the honey butter was also cold. The person I was with asked the waitress if they were supposed to be cold she said no I’ll have to tell them to turn up the burner light. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette with the grits, I love grits I like to put butter salt and sometimes pepper and them. These were very sweet with corn not just plain corn more like cream corn from a can, came with no butter and no spoon. I did not eat much of the grits because they were way too sweet I gave half of my omelette to the person I was with because they ordered the breakfast with the two eggs and the toast and the potatoes. It looked like a child’s portion for him and there was one slice of toast and two slices of overcooked bacon. He had a soda to drink and I had water for $37.50 this was not the type of breakfast I was expecting at all. I found out later some friends of mine went and got the Benedict‘s and said they were very good. I’m not sure if I will try this place again because they were not scratch biscuits did not like the grits at all. There was a very small menu I’ll have to really check it over well before I decide to go there again close to the...
Read moreWe ate here for the first time yesterday. Our food came out, with no silverware to eat it. My husband had to get up and track down our waiter to ask for silverware. The waiter came back with plastic silverware and said they were out of regular silverware at the moment. I ordered a side of bacon that did not come out with the food. I asked the waiter about it, and he said he would check on it. 20 minutes go by, I asked again and nothing. I finally just told him to forget about the bacon. The pancakes look picture perfect but they were beyond dry. We had to soak them in syrup for them to taste good and be able to swallow them. My husband ordered eggs Benedict, and one of his eggs came out cooked as a hard-boiled egg. When he told the waiter to let the cook know, the waiter came back and told us the cook said "sometimes they come out like that". That blew me away. Don't serve it if it comes out like that. That is not how the dish is supposed to be cooked. You are a chef. We did not receive a discount for that. I also ordered a Cappaccino, the waiter waited to tell me after he brought it to me that their machine was broken and they had to hand make it so it might taste a little off. We will not...
