We were invited to check out LEKA during their soft opening this week and it was amazing! It’s all of our wooden toy, open-ended play dreams come true! They have all of the best heirloom quality toys and your little kiddos can go wild with creativity! The owner and staff were all super friendly and welcoming and I’m overjoyed they have made this playplace happen. The play place is kept exceptionally clean and every room and nook is warm and welcoming.
When you enter, you’ll have your temperature taken and be asked to show your vaccination card for people 12+. Ages 5+ are required to wear a mask. It’s a shoe-free place and socks are required; you can stow your shoes in the cubbies provided in the reception area. From there you’ll head through a baby gate and down a hall that opens to a bunch of thematic playrooms.
The first room contains a train set and squishy mat with roads for car and truck play. Across the hall is a woodland inspired room with a play yurt, nature books, and the cutest floor cushions that look liked slices of wood. They also have the most darling little wooden woodland animal figurines to play with.
Continuing down the hall, you’ll find a room where your kiddos’ domestic creativity can go wild with a play kitchen, shopping cart, a huge market filled to brim with felt and wooden produce, baked goods and all the goodies you’d find at a Farmer’s Market, a big wooden kitchen, and table to “dine” at. On the other side of the room you’re kiddos can play dress up with an entire fantastical wardrobe and for more quiet play, there is also a cute wooden dollhouse.
Across the hall you’ll find the perfect room for infants that has all the classics your baby will love, but toys your slightly older toddler will love as well (Mamas in the 2 under 2 club!), I’m talking to you!!!) They have a pull up bar with the sweetest little cloud shaped mirrors, a small wooden climber with slide and climbing pillows and lots of the wooden and silicon classic baby toys.
Down the hallway you’ll find a snacking room with a self serve snack bar. To the far end is a sensory play station with rocks and kinetic sand. Across is a big, beautiful wooden climbing structure with a slide and even a pulley to hoist your toys to the top! There is a balance board, balance beam, colored stepping stones and a nugget!
Thanks again, what a dream come true!
Some COVID safety and hygiene notes. In addition required proof of vaccination (ages 12+) and masks for ages 5+, they have a HEPA filtered air sanitizer running around the clock and disinfect toys regularly (as in we saw them sanitizing toys several times throughout the 2 hours we were there). They also have a hand washing station both inside and outside...
Read moreSo over all I would say this place is worth going and giving it a shot but there are a few draw backs
So this place is split into 6 rooms with one of them being for little kids (under 18 months). So expect to move around a fair amount because you can not see one room from a different room with a few exceptions.
While there watch your kid if they still put stuff into there mouth because even in the under 18 month room there things that would not pass the toilet paper roll test for chocking hazard.
However with that in mind even when they where short staffed (only 1 person working) they where going around and disinfecting and wiping things down consistently. However what they use can be a little strong for sensitive skin so if your kid has sensitive skin I would recommend having them avoid anything that was just wiped down or disinfected.
Parking is one of the main reasons they lost a star. The parking spaces are very much so on the small size causing loading and unloading to be very difficult to the point I had to move my car to be able to load up my daughter.
The other reason for the loss of the star is the place felt crowded and this is, due to the layout of the building while the rooms them self's felt maybe a little small there was over all room however the main halfway is only big enough for one person and kid to walk through at a time.
I did not pay to much attention to the self serve kiosk had for snacks however from what I did notice they seem reasonably priced and a somewhat okay selection for quick snack but by no means would you eat a meal here.
Beaware they do get busy and when I was, leaving I heard there was over an hour wait
Over all I see my self going back however probably not during spring break
Update : I forgot a very important detail my daughter seem to have a lot of fun and was so tired afterwards she took...
Read moreLoved this place! I took my almost 2 year old to Leka Playland for the first time today, he played for a full 2 hrs and came home a happy and tired kiddo. We drove down from Vancouver and would do it again. We would absolutely love to see a play space like this in Vancouver, right now there isn't much available for littles like this. Beyond how adorable and well thought out Leka is, a huge selling point for me was the required proof of covid vaccination for adults. As a mom of an under 5, and an immunocompromised older child it's so nice to find a business who seems to care about the health of the littles.
I thought the price was well worth it, if we were closer I could definitely see coming in the morning, heading home for a nap amd coming back in the afternoon. Snacks are and drinks are convenient, purchased on a scan and pay availability. We bought our own snacks but it's nice to know there are options.
Leka was clean and tidy, each room having a different theme. The play spaces were inviting for lots of imaginative play. It was nice to see cleaning and wiping down of surfaces and toys through our time there.
Thank you for opening such a wonderful space. We...
