Gotta’ admit, I miss Corona. Granted, I only went there once or twice a year. But it was the faux-festive sort of place that served large portions of ‘American’ Mexican food and had employees that greeted and served you with a smile. It certainly had its niche in the LO food scene.
Si Senor feels like it is going for a slightly more upscale version of the same sorts of faux tendencies, with similar portions, better flavors profiles, and a slightly higher price point. The water features, the high ceilings, the homemade tortilla station . . . these all speak to selling a version of Mexican food that feels somehow more authentic, even if it isn’t really (the nods to the regions of Mexico on the wooden menus is, though, a nice way to categorize the food options).
The salsa and hot bean dip with your chips is a nice starter, even if the latter seem to be lacking in a bit of salt and the both of the former are somewhat blandly seasoned. The assorted combo platers come with your usual spread of rice, cheese, salsa/lettuce, guac, sour cream, and beans on garishly colorful and over-sized platers. Fajitas are well-portioned, with the carnitas having nice flavor and the slice of lime being a nice addition. The mole has a deeper color and slightly more nuanced favors than other places like this. One gripe? If you get a dish with tortillas on the side, you only get two (not three, or perhaps four), though both corn and flour versions have a nice chew.
Service? Pretty good (and we were there on a busy Friday night). We were immediately greeted by the host. Our group of eight was fairly quickly seated. Our server was efficient and kept checking on us, bring us refills, and was prompt clearing plates. There was a bit of a lag getting our bill. Then again, like I said, it was a busy night.
It seems as if some of the negative criticisms—slow and rude service namely—have been addressed as this relatively new restaurant has worked out the kinks over the opening months.
While I miss Corona, I am glad to welcome Si Senor to the LO area. I will be back....

From the moment my girlfriend and I stepped into Si Señor, it was clear that this was not just another Mexican restaurant. Yes, we'd heard about the hiccups during their opening week or two, which is to be expected with any new establishment striving for greatness. But let me tell you, Si Señor has not only found their rhythm, but they've also set a new standard for what we've come to cherish from their other locations – and then some.
The ambiance here strikes a perfect balance between elegant and cozy, enveloping you in an atmosphere that's both welcoming and distinctly Mexican. The music, soft yet invigorating, sets the scene for a dining experience that is nothing short of enchanting.
Now, onto the cuisine, which is, without a doubt, the star of the show. Everything on the menu screams authenticity and flavor, but the Carne Asada plate is a standout masterpiece. Tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection, it's a dish that transports you right to the heart of Mexico with every bite. Coupled with their fresh, house-made salsas and tortillas, it’s a feast for the senses.
But what truly elevates the dining experience at Si Señor is the impeccable service. The staff here aren't just employees; they're ambassadors of Mexican hospitality. Always attentive, never intrusive, they ensure that your glass is never empty and your plate always full. Speaking of which, the margaritas we had were simply divine - the perfect blend of tangy and sweet, they were an excellent companion to our meal.
Even the springs that grace the restaurant's interior add a touch of serenity and beauty, making our dinner feel like a retreat from the bustling world outside.
In conclusion, Si Señor is more than a restaurant; it's a culinary journey that delights and surprises at every turn. Whether you’re a lover of Mexican cuisine or simply in search of an exemplary dining experience, this gem is a must-visit. Hats off to the chefs, the staff, and everyone who makes Si Señor the incredible...
Read moreThe overall atmosphere was nice but deceiving. Went in for lunch with some friends around noon and it wasn’t busy at all. The entire booth bench moved when we sat down and got up. Our waiter checked on us maybe twice but stared at us from the kitchen area. I ordered the GUAC and veggie tacos with cactus and asked for cheese to be added (pictured on this post) then the waiter asked if I wanted rice and beans on my tacos and I said yes. Took almost 30 minutes for our food to come out. When it did, I was very disappointed to see what my meal looked like. No rice, no beans, no guac, and no cheese. Upon inspecting the cactus, I found multiple spikes still attached or sitting in the dish. Tried flagging down multiple other waiters and the manager to complain about it and were ignored. Finally got our waiter to come by and he brought me a sad looking plate of cheese and a bowl of rice and beans. When we asked for the check, my bill was $27. Tacos were 18 and fountain drink was 4, so I was confused as to why my bill was so high. Turns out the beans and rice did not come with my tacos like the waiter made it seem, but it was a side (which was not posted anywhere on the menu) that I had ordered. I argued and asked why he would offer it to come with my meal if it was an extra charge and he handed me my receipt walked away.
Safe to say I will probably not be...
