Had a fantastic visit at the Potso Dog Park today with the hubs and my Frenchton, Nick. The park is separated into two sections: one for smaller dogs and another for larger dogs. We took Nick to the smaller area, so that’s the only side I can speak for, but for his very first visit to a dog park, he had a blast!
I love that the park is setup with a double gating system to try to avoid any potential escapees. So basically, you open the first gate to exit into a small pen area, then after making sure there are no loose runaways in there with you, next you open the final gate to exit to the parking lot (which is located conveniently right next to the park). Very smart and well thought out.
All of the dog owners were extremely friendly and conscientious. I didn’t notice any dogs doing their business where the owner wasn’t following right behind them to bag it and throw it away. There are multiple water stations surrounding the enclosed play area where your pup can have a drink at his or her leisure, and plenty of water available for refills.
Nick had so much fun running around and playing with his new found buddies (both canine and human), and even met another Frenchton just like him named Roxie which was super exciting. I think there might have been a Pug Facebook Group meetup or something today, because there were pugs galore! But they were super cute to watch. And there were absolutely no aggressive dogs in the play area that we had to contend with. Plus, as an added bonus, Nick was totally beat afterward and splatted for the rest of the afternoon, so we definitely got out all that pent-up puppy energy.
Overall, 5 out of 5 experience and we will definitely...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting Potso dog park & I really liked it. Clearly the people who designed and maintain the park put a lot of thought into its design. Both sides of the park: the mixed dog side and the small dog side are open in the winter. There is a dog washing station near the porta-potty to help with the mud. The mixed dog side does look like it turns muddy in the rain, but it was dry today despite a light rain. Both areas are flat & fairly handicap accessible (there are 2 handicap parking spaces). The small dog side has full grass still & a little toy station. The mixed dog side has a hose for filling up the amble amounts of jugs around the area. There are bowls for water scattered around the grounds, and I really like that there's plastic chairs in ample supply to sit in, picnic tables to put your things down on, and best of all, multiple covered areas to go to when it starts to rain. There's also a wood chip trail that goes around the perimeter if you want to walk while your dog plays. The only downsides I saw were that 1: there isn't enough parking & I didn't see any clear areas for overflow parking & 2: some of the picnic benches have considerable wear - like big holes in the wood. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend paying them a visit if you live...
Read moreHad to stop coming here. There are a few regulars who spend a lot of time here that have dogs that are not trained to handle an off leash dog park and they use the park as a place to let their dog "play" while they play on their cell phones. This results in a lot of dog fights over toys and dogs destroying the park. There are holes everywhere from one dog that is a regular and likes to dig, and the owner does nothing to stop it. On the maintenance side of things, it's so muddy there that you could lose a boot or shoe. It makes sense to me to possibly put down some other materials at the entrance area that would prevent a massive standing water mud pit. The gauge of the fence facing the road is too large and balls bounce through it constantly, and since the north facing gate is always locked, I have to leave my dog unattended to go out the parking lot gate and around to the road to fetch a ball. And the awnings to most of the shelters are removed or missing, making them useless for rain/wind/sun protection. Such a disappointment to see the park in this condition, and to have a few neglectful owners ruin the park for...
