Have been buying tires from Les Schwab since my 1st car in high school (I'm 49). They used to be great as a family-owned business. Went in today for a slow leak in rear tire and learnes all 4 tires were bald, front ones had chords visible. We bought 4 premium tires from them last time with an 80,000 mile warranty and had only driven around 30+K miles since (city driving, some trips down I5 to Roseburg). Was told my warranty no good because we didn't use Les Schwaub for all of or alignments & rotations, which are often done by my mechanic or other places with deals. Wtf? Was told tires were worn out so quickly on an 80,000 mile warranty because they were out of alignment (learned tonight the alignment is fine), and that if I left without getting everything my tires would blow at any moment (any moment!!!). It was implied this was our fault, and I was pressured to buy all 4 new tires and given huge quotes including things I know are unneccesary like siping and tire pressure mounting system rebuild kits. The communication felt a lot more like fear-mongering as a sales tactic than a real, honest conversation about helping me have a road safe car on my budget. No one screamed or snapped at me, no crazy rudeness, but it was a far cry from the kind of interaction you'd expect from a business you have to just trust not to oversell you because you don't know everything about cars. And especially a company you've had a long-standing relationship with. So I took their quotes & diagnosis to Discount Tire, which is STILL a family-owned business, in Hillsboro. Was able to get all 4 tires replaced with the same quality of tires quoted by Schwab, except at Discount I was able to compare tire options, customer reviews and professional ratings on things like handling, durability, wear, braking in wet and dry conditions and with worn tread over time, comfort, and noise. I asked questions and had a genuine conversation, and most importanly I was treated like I mattered to them, that my safety mattered to them, and that my budget mattered. My total was nearly half the price quoted by Schwab, and it including a warranty that actually protects me without any loopholes. I will never, ever go anywhere else. Worth the drive to Discount Tire in Hillsboro to work with professions, no pressuring or fear-mongering at all. Discount doesn't do alignments, so I swung by my mechanic (Vu' Auto Repair), and it's FINE. I'll even get a 3rd opinion when I get my oil chaned next week to be safe. But Schwaub made it seem like it was glaringly out of alignment, which was suspicious simply due to the fact that it doesn't pull in either direction and when I loosen my grip on the wheel on the long, straight drive by my house it just keep going straight. So sorry to see a once reliable company go in this direction. As a woman, I recommend only patronizing businesses that treat you with professionalism and are willing to take the time to show you what exactly you're paying for, explain the problem as well how it's fixed, and options that fit your budget so you can make an informed decision. If you feel rushed, pressured, talked down to or are treated like they don't care about, you're either a mark or they really don't care about you. Don't let someone like that work...
Read moreI posted this review to Yelp as well- AVOID THIS LOCATION AT ALL COSTS, if you give a crap about your car. These people are completely incompetent and seem to be incapable of completing repairs that they have no problem charging you for. I have been here 3 times for the same problem and surprise, surprise! The "fix" isn't fixed.
I'm new to town but heard Les Schwab has a good reputation so I brought my Toyota Corolla (one of the most common cars on the road) for a rear brake job. The first time I stopped in the man that helped me stated that the rear adjusters on my drum brakes needed to be adjusted and completed this for free as part of the inspection. After he did the adjustment, my brakes stopped squeaking and my emergency brake was functional again... for about a week. I returned again with my boyfriend who asked for the rear drums to be inspected and the adjusters replaced. After leaving my car for several hours because they don't take appointments, I received my car back and paid for the rear adjuster replacement. My brakes were no longer squeaky and my E brake worked again... for about 2 weeks this time. As well, I developed a suspicious pulse in my brake pedal which my boyfriend attributed to a problem with the front brakes, which were also apparently inspected and cleaned as part of my service.
Two weeks later I brought the car back AGAIN because neither my rear brakes nor my emergency brake were operational and I needed to have the pulsing in the brake pedal addressed. THIS time, staff recommended having my front rotors turned and completed a readjustment of the rear brakes. When I received the car back, again after several hours, I got into my car to drive off but noticed a horrific grinding and thumping noise coming from the rear of the car. I went back in to address this and the woman behind the counter called the service person who completed this round of repairs. After she spoke to him she tried to tell me that the noise was normal and would go away after a few days. The unholy sounds coming from this car were NOT normal and back into the bay it went for more "adjusting". We drove it home a short time later and all seemed relatively in order.
Lo and behold, the pulse in the front brakes resumed after about a day, the squeaking and thumping in my rear brakes resumed after about a week and my emergency brake is again, barely functional. While Les Schwab does offer a warranty on their brake work, I have had MORE than enough of this place. I've clearly been charged for work that was not completed and whatever "work" was completed on my car was not completed correctly. I'm not sure what the problem is with this place or why they have such difficulty completing a common repair on a very common vehicle. I won't ever go to this or any other Les...
Read moreI had an incredibly disappointing experience with ANDRE, the employee working at the front. I’ve been to this place before and never encountered any issues right from the start, but this time was completely different. As soon as ANDRE saw me walk in, he immediately adopted a rude and dismissive attitude. I calmly explained that I had a nail in my tire and needed it repaired. Before coming in, I had even called to confirm that the tire repair service is free, as long as the tire is repairable which they had always done for me in the past without any charge.
Instead of offering help or understanding, ANDRE snapped at me, telling me to stop running over nails, as if I’m purposely driving over them. Obviously, no one drives intentionally over nails, and it’s not like you can see them on the road ahead to avoid them. If I could, I certainly wouldn’t have this issue.
Andre’s attitude was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. He needs to speak with the owner and work on his customer service skills because this was by far the worst experience I’ve had here. Usually, I don’t bother writing reviews, but when someone is as rude and disrespectful as he was, I feel compelled to share my experience so others know what to expect.
I even spoke with his coworkers to find out what the issue was and explained the situation where he was attempting to charge me unfairly. They were genuinely surprised and taken aback that he would try to do that. In fact, one of them seemed like they wanted to say something about Andre’s behavior but chose not to, probably because they wanted to maintain professionalism. It was clear from their reactions that this isn’t the first time Andre has caused problems, and the staff may feel uncomfortable addressing it openly.
If you don’t like your job, please consider finding something else! I also checked the reviews, and others have had similar problems with this same person. That should say a lot. If Andre keeps working here, he could seriously harm the business. I don’t understand why he’s still employed here he really needs to be let go.
To Management: I know you’ll likely see this review and consider responding with a generic, copy-and-paste reply—but I want to be clear that I’m not looking for that. I expect a genuine, thoughtful response that actually addresses the concerns I’ve raised, along with meaningful action. If you're not prepared to take this seriously, then I’d prefer you not respond to my review at...
