I really do enjoy spending time here. The staff has always been very friendly and more than helpful. I got into gaming in the last few years and was overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of the gaming world. I felt lost amongst the vast sea of D&D, MTG and the variety of boardgames. Gaming it seemed, was not what I remembered from my younger days of Omega Virus, Shark Attack and Risk. Gaming had evolved and I knew almost nothing of it.
This is where the friendly staff of Game Universe jumped in to help with all my Noob-esque questions. Recently, I stopped into the store with questions about MTG. I had found some old cards a buddy had left for me when he moved out of state and wanted to learn more. Yes, I had a lot of questions. They staff were delighted to help and answer all of them.
Then they suggested I attend a pre-release event for the newest deck (Shadows Over Innistrad); I was apprehensive because I had little experience, but the encouragement felt genuine and I was assured that people were usually happy to help initiate and coach new players.
The day of the event, I was trying to teach my friend some of the basics of play and the staff member even gave us a few promotional starter decks to help!
It's not about giving away free things or encouraging people to attend events so the store can make money. It's about the little things that actually matter. Helping to encourage people, educate and help them to stoke the fires of their interests and passions... you don't find this everywhere. You don't create brand loyalty by being an elitist jerk.
Game Universe has always been a positive and engaging experience, even when just stopping in for a few new mini's. Because of GU, I have a much better understanding of MTG and I am more than willing to spend my money with these folks who so genuinely enjoy investing their time and energy...
Read moreI LOVE THIS STORE!! Hands Down my favorite place to go! I live an hour away and drive past many card stores just to make it to this one! EVERY EMPLOYEE IS AWESOME! I usually go and hang out for 3 hours while I view their binders, find something I like, then go through my stuff I bought and propose a trade! They pretty much give you the amount you would get if you sold it on Ebay yourself! Except you don't have to worry about shipping, customer service, and returns! I even once sold them a slab that I traded to them for $25, it sold on my ebay the next day for $75, and I called the store and only had to pay $40 to get it back. Basically they offer very fair prices and they base it off what they bought it for, and that gives you the opportunity to snipe some cool cards that may be on an incline! Most importantly, they have stuff priced out, again to promote you to actually come into the store and snipe some cool pickups! Not how some stores are starting to do it where they don't price anything and then just look up TCG player prices! (That is no fun, and gives you no reason to go into the store) Everytime I go there I work out a $200-300 deal/trade and leave with the biggest smile on my face! I appreciate yall! Thank you foe being my happy place to have a good time with some like...
Read moreThe owner deleted my first review, so here it is again. My opinion hasn’t changed.
My partner and I went in just before New Years to grab some bulk commons. Since they were bulk commons, we didn’t count how many we grabbed, just a chunk. When we got to the register, they counted the cards. There were 228. They rang them into the computer and gave us the total. $127 $127 for 228 bulk common MTG cards. That comes out to about $0.56 per card. Most of these were only worth $0.02-$0.06. The most expensive was probably close to $0.12. At most, the transaction should have been $20-$30. We laughed our way out the door. Don’t give them your money. They don’t deserve it. Buy your...
