Unfortunately, today while visiting the center with my grandchildren, along with three other adults with children. We observed three counselors watching 10 children approximately three or four years old at the little playground with the splash pad. They never got up to watch the children for 45 minutes. The children wandered around and away from them roughly 50 feet away and the girls just kept yelling at the kids stop and come back. Don’t do that. Don’t do this. Finally I had enough from one of the children who was bullying the other children for 20 minutes and they just kept yelling at him to stop and he never did. I walked over and asked them to please get off their butt and take care of the children. They’re way too far away from you and yelling at them from a distance is not taking care of them. 10 minutes later another young girl came out and came up to me in my face yelling and screaming obscenities at me. The whole incident was bizarre. I told her to stop you are doing this in front of the children. She did not care. She kept coming in my face and was trying to get into a physical altercation with me. That would never have happened. She was calling me all kinds of names and trying to belittle me. However, at the age of 60 I am not falling for any of these juvenile stunts. I asked repeatedly to stop behaving like this in front of the children. She did not care. She also explained to me that the counselors are allowed downtime and they were on downtime. To my shock, how do you have downtime when you’re watching three and four-year-olds? Finally, she turned around to leave and she grabbed two of the children to take with her. She took my two grandchildren what a joke she didn’t even know what children she was watching.
Parents please be careful of this program. The counselors themselves need supervision.
I called to speak to the person in charge and the kid that answered the phone was referring to me as the crazy lady from the park to all the other girls in the office and they were laughing.
I did speak to Renée and she said she would take care of this issue.
I hope it gets resolved for the...
Read moreThe PJVC is a great place to host events. The 3rd floor event room is spacious enough for medium to semi-large gatherings. The staff at the front office is great and they are professional. They are willing to work with you and even have a list of businesses they work with from catering, to design and setup, the works! The facility itself as a recreational facility offers you a day full of things to do. The only negative here is the parking. It’s horrendous as it is street parking. They do have a few reserved spots but nothing too big. There is also paid parking g nearby. Being that this is a very popular spot in Port Jeff, you need to plan accordingly and be ready to stay a while looking for parking. Unless you get lucky or want to pay for...
Read moreI had a wonderful time at the Port Jefferson Village Center. I first spoke to Grainne at the front desk. She was helpful in explaining the activities at the Center. We got to talking about Irish films which I love and she recommended an excellent series. As a retired social worker, I could see how well she understood my interests. I then enjoyed the art exhibition.. Last Thursday I and two friends went to the Street Fighters covert which I thoroughly enjoyed. Good sound system. And a beautiful spot to attend a concert and...
