The Steam Room is situated in beautiful, historic Port Jefferson seaport. I'm revising my original review and I am comfortable with this. While it seems that the manager and workers seem well mannered and the seafood seems fresh, sadly I do have to limit my overall rating based on what it's lacking. So the Steam Room is akin to a fast-food style place. When you walk in they seat you, give you a menu then inform you that to order you go to the counter and wait on line. One line. Only one. It could be empty, it could go down the stairs out of the place. Just one line. So after ordering you get to your table and wait, which isn't too bad. The drinks arrive first and sure enough the server tips their tray and here comes the lemonade all over the place. Side note, the server also spilled a lobster platter on another table as well. The server was polite but apparently they don't know how to hold their tray. So on to the food. The raw clams and oysters are fresh. I've had so much better for the price but at least it's fresh. The other seafood also seemed fresh, except the Calamari which by the way when fried should be crispy. Theirs is not. No breading, not even a dusting. It had to be sent back. While the food in general is not bad, it severely lacks in flavor. It appears they don't season anything. They have sauces and sea salt on the table but nothing is prepared with any seasoning at all. Even the Lemonade has little sweetness or even lemon flavor. So given that you have to pay 3-star prices, wait on line to order, food is flavorless and not prepared so well, I know this place can do better. Also did i mention the really obnoxious fluorescent signs right in your face? Outdoor lighting are these really strong fluorescent signs where the pictures are fading and the glare in unbearable! Again this place can do so much better, but I don't think they're going to anytime soon. I will return in about a year once they bounce back from the pandemic a bit more and I do hope they're doing things a bit better.

I’m going to be honest, I’ve been coming here since the 90’s as a kid. I always looked forward to the baked clams or the clam strips. You paid per baked clam and you ordered at the window and brought it to your table when it was ready. I moved away from NY in 2006 but have come home so many times during this time. I always tried to make a stop here. It’s been about 4 years since my last time and I have to say…what happened to this place? Now it’s just like any other restaurant with table waitstaff. I’m guessing new ownership? There was one main gentleman policing the entrance and telling people which way to go, he actually shouted at an elderly gentleman a couple times. I would’ve just let him walk in however he wanted instead of making a issue of it, but that’s just me. Our waiter was very nice but that gentleman policing the entrance seemed very anxious. Our lemonade was basically lemon water. No sweetness at all. I didn’t complain. Our appetizer came out at the same time as our lunch. Our lunch wasn’t hot but the appetizer was. The food was fine but I was surprised that now the only way to get baked clams here is to pay $10 for the 3 clam appetizer. That’s a little high, in my opinion. All in all…was saddened to see what’s going on at one of my favorite places to visit when I come home.

I used to love going to this restaurant, I have been going here for years. This would be a staple for my friends and I every summer. However, the last time I went I was extremely disappointed. Just based off of my own opinion, the lemonade tasted like soap, my fries were super soggy and the bun for my burger was hard. My husband and my friends had complaints about their food as well. Additionally, one of the major reasons I have been going to this restaurant is because they have always been dog friendly, that is false after what I experienced my last visit. My dog is tiny, he weighs less than 10 lbs and was in a small stroller. The wait staff kept coming over making multiple comments about him drinking water and sitting close to the table, first issue was they didn't want the water flying all over (super dramatic) he was drinking water I brought with me in his stroller not going anywhere, then I was told he was sitting too close to our table and he should've been on the floor (so rude). I am a dog lover, that is just me and I understand everyone has different views/rules, but don't advertise your establishment as dog friendly, with no specific rules posted anywhere and then keep coming to our table making remarks while we are trying to eat our dinner, which wasn't even that great. It makes me sad to have to leave this review because in previous years it wasn't like this. After this, I will no longer be going to this restaurant with my friends and family...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.5-Star Review for The Steam Room – Port Jefferson, NY

The Steam Room in Port Jefferson is a fantastic spot for fresh seafood, waterfront dining, and a laid-back atmosphere. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this place delivers great food with a view!

What I Loved:

✅ Fresh & Delicious Seafood – Their lobster roll is packed with tender lobster meat, and the clam chowder is creamy and flavorful. A must-try! ✅ Scenic Harbor Views – The outdoor seating gives you a perfect view of the water, making for a great dining experience. ✅ Casual & Family-Friendly – No fancy frills, just good food, big portions, and a relaxed vibe. ✅ They Accept Credit & Debit Cards! – Unlike older reviews that mentioned a cash-only policy, they now accept credit and debit cards, making payment easier.

What Could Be Better:

❌ Can Get Crowded – Expect some wait time, especially during weekends and peak summer hours. ❌ Slightly Pricey for a Casual Spot – The food is great, but some menu items feel a bit expensive for the setting.

Final Verdict:

If you’re looking for high-quality seafood with a great view in Port Jeff, The Steam Room is a must-visit. The food is fresh, the portions are generous, and the setting is perfect for a relaxed meal by the water. Just be prepared for a possible wait if you go during peak hours.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ 4.5/5 Stars – Highly...
