I came to Ronny's Jewelry a week or two ago for what I thought would be a simple job. Getting the battery replaced in my watch. The staff was friendly, which was a nice first impression since it was my first time stopping in. I asked the man behind the counter if they did battery swaps, and was surprised when he told me it would take two days. Usually (in my experience), this is something a jeweler can do in about 10 minutes, but I figured maybe they were backed up or out of the right batteries, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and left my watch with them.
The weekend came and went, and I couldn’t make it back to the shop on the day they said it would be ready. Monday was Memorial Day, so I planned to stop in Tuesday. Before heading over, I gave them a call, mostly because I found it strange they hadn’t contacted me yet. The person I spoke to told me the watch wouldn’t be ready until that Friday. At this point, they’d already had it for four days. I couldn’t believe it would take over a week to change a battery, but again, I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
On Friday, I got out of work early and figured I’d swing by and finally pick up my watch. As soon as I walked in, the same man immediately apologized from across the room, saying he’d left “his whole package of jobs on his kitchen table". I was starting to lose my patience, but he reassured me that if I came back the next morning, he’d definitely have it ready.
So Saturday rolls around, now nine days since I first dropped off the watch. I walk in, and he greets me with another apology, hands me my watch, and tells me his “watch guy couldn’t open it", telling me that my Movado watch needs to be taken to an authorized dealer who has a special tool to open the back.
At the end of this whole ordeal, nine days, three in-person visits, and a phone call—I left with nothing but wasted time and frustration. I brought the watch home, looked up a video, and swapped out the battery myself in five minutes.
In the end, what really bothered me wasn’t that they couldn’t do the job (maybe the thing about a special Movado tool is true, I don’t know) but that they couldn’t just be honest with me from the start. Instead, I spent over a week chasing down a watch for a job they never ended up doing. The ordeal left me so annoyed that I felt like I needed to leave a review, making this the first negative google review...
