Tonight my daughter was asked to March in the Patchogue Day parade with a organization called Patchogue and Medford youth and community services.
So we decided to head down a little bit earlier and hang out with my favorite dog rescue. The better man distilling company. New York Safe Haven Animal Rescue, Inc. is responsible for bringing my additional family member up from Puerto Rico. They rescue Sato dogs so keep them in mind if you decide to rescue. #adoptdontshop
So while down in Patchogue with a few friends decided to have dinner at The village idiot pub. Food is always great there and honestly on a night like tonight I didn't think we would get a table. Who knew they had a cute little back room with two larger tables in it and we took up one of them.
As we sat down the waitress access for our drinks and even made a few beer recommendations. They had a banana bread beer that was out of this world but stupid me forgot to ask who the Brewer was. It was so good I really enjoyed it and should have had a second.
There were six adults and the boy child. Overall consensus of the group said the food was fantastic.
The three appetizers that were brought to the table were crab cakes a cup of soup and french onion.
They actually serve the cup of soup in a coffee cup. It looked like it was full of noodles smelled delicious.
The French onion soup was really good. I know this is it go to for this menu and the wife enjoyed it.
The guy that ordered the crab cake said they were really tasty. It came with three on the plate and looked really good.
The boy child ordered wings and even tried their atomic sauce. He really liked the heat offered on the atomic but there is a pepper in it that he doesn't love the flavor of. He still dipped his french fries in it and enjoyed it.
Bill got a steak sandwich and he said it was really good. He said the steak was nice and tender.
His wife got a cheeseburger and said it was really good.
My friend Scott got a sandwich called the moe. It is a French dip with mozzarella cheese. You can either get it with gravy or au jus. He got it with gravy and said the gravy had a great flavor.
His wife got a basket of boneless wings. When she asked how many were in it they said there is no count they just fill up the bowl and they definitely did. I think she even brought some home. I forgot to take a picture of these.
I got a moe sandwich also. I can tell you the roast beef was cut thin and the au just was full of flavor. I totally enjoyed this sandwich and got them with chips. The chips are served with a chipotle ranch which had enough heat to not be boring but not overbearing.
The wife got a Mediterranean flatbread. This greak flatbread was really an appetizer. It was a Greek salad on a flatbread with chicken. It was properly dressed and the wife said it had a great flavor.
We always have a great time when we go to the village idiot. They are an awesome partner of this page and offered the discount without even questioning. I wish I caught our waitresses name as she was phenomenal. It might have been Stephanie but I'm not 100% sure. I would definitely request her again.
The village idiot has three locations. They are in centereach, Oakdale, and of course Patchogue. well...
Read moreWe were in the area for a weekend long lacrosse tournament being held at Stony Brook University (NLF). When we travel for lacrosse, we enjoy supporting local businesses. The night before we dined at Karvers Grille and had an excellent experience. This time we were looking for more of a local sports bar feel. I knew businesses were busy with the area hosting a large lacrosse and baseball tournament.
I called in advance to see the wait for a party of (3). The female who picked up the phone mentioned there was no wait, we headed right there. Once we walked in, we were met moments later by what appeared to be the hostess. When she turned the corner and saw us, she appeared to be in shock. I asked for a table for (3) for my husband, our 17-year-old son who was still wearing his lacrosse jersey and shorts, and myself. The woman quick responded that the kitchen was closed. Her response caught us off guard because the bar was crowded, there were people dining at the back tables, and it was a Saturday night. I kind of knew why she said that however, I did not want to assume. We just left and headed somewhere else to dine.
The next day (Sunday) I called, a man answered, I mentioned I was new to the area and asked what time their kitchen closes daily. He said 11pm daily even on Sundays. We were in a hurry after our son's game to eat and get back to our hotel that we never read the reviews. After reading the Google reviews, it appears they frequently refuse to serve customers. Now I know why there was no wait, this establishment picks and chooses who to serve. I feel as though we were discriminated against because the color of our skin. We did not question why others were dining, or why on a Saturday night was their kitchen closed just after 7:30 pm because no need to spend our money in a business that does not want it or does not see our family equally to others. If we are ever in the Long Island area, we will never even drive past this place. I advise the same for others. I wish this business could get a 0 and could get flagged for discriminatory...
Read moreRecently visited for breakfast and wasn’t a great experience.
The restaurant had about 4 tables seated (though one was a 10 top)
Hostess seated us and we waited for approx 20 minutes with no server coming to us before I asked the hostess if we could order drinks. Was told she was unable to do that and that they were understaffed. It appeared they had a bartender (maybe 3 or 4 customers at bar) a server, and a busser. 4 staff front of house including the hostess.
We eventually order drinks which came more than 30 minutes after being seated. Since the hostess was unable to take a drink order, couldn’t the bartender have come out and taken drinks orders from tables to help the server out?
One of the tables that sat 20 minutes after us received their food before we did, because the server seemed oblivious that we were seated before that table. (Maybe the hostess could have let him know?)
Food arrived more than an hour after seating. Not ideal when you have 3 kids who at this point are fairly restless. Had I known this would’ve been the case, we would’ve gone elsewhere.
As we had to go somewhere soon after receiving food, we ended up having to get boxes and take the food home (I don’t think 90 minutes for breakfast was an unreasonable time frame)
To add insult, when the bill came, each of the kids meals were charged at more than the menu price. Not sure how that even happens with pricing already set on the point of sale system?
I understand staffing is currently an issue these days, but a bit of communication to let us know before seating, and more importantly, between staff members to help each other out, would’ve been useful. There appeared to be no leadership or savvy amongst the team members to help each other out. The hostess, standing doing nothing despite it not being particularly busy, could easily have been helping the server, or at least communicating with the customers, rather than sitting staring into space.
Unlikely to return unless there are significant...
