I've been all over the country and it remains my favorite grocery store, in central New York and frankly the whole of the north east! As a cancer survivor and now disabled person, I'm so very appreciative of helping hands employees and cart to car service. I can shop for my family by myself, and get the groceries into the car without struggle or risk of hurting myself. Being helped by people who do it because it's their job is acceptable, but with Wegman's, it's almost like each helping hands employee are genuinely interested in helping you do everything you need to, and want to be helpful, do their best work. That's something, that's certainty worth a mention. Though each Wegman's might vary slightly, most have an amazing selection of gourmet cheeses, olives, organics, ethnic foods, fresh cut meat and seafoods, hand arranged flowers, locally sourced produce, they even have a great selection of bulk buys; the selection really makes this SUPER MARKET a one stop shop for ANY grocery need. If I can't reach something there isn't a whole goose chase to hopefully find an employee to give me a hand, I've literally NEVER been in the store when there hasn't been a employee within 2 isles, it's usually less, (&I love midnight shopping!) It's so wonderful to have a helpful, happy, INFORMED, employee to get you what you need. If you haven't been to a wegman's I totally recommend it, and also suggest you try their bakery and hot food options! It's a...
Read morePlease let me start with the fact I absolutely love Wegmans! They have great food and wonderful staff. And despite a common misunderstanding - you CAN buy lots of food for less at Wegmans than you may think.
EXCEPT if you order a delivery. I just made my first (and LAST) order to be delivered less than 2 miles. I am a caregiver to my mom and today wasn't the day to go to a busy store (though I did get coverage briefly and went into the store)
When I made my order on Wegmans.com, I had 3 choices of who would deliver. I chose the recommended 'Wegmans Delivery' believing it would not be as pricey as Instacart or UberEats.
As you can see from the included photos , everything implied Wegmans would be doing the delivery. They did not.
It was when I received a text from Instacart that they put a 7 day hold of $65 on my credit card - THEN I knew I had made a mistake in trusting what the Wegmans app implied with them doing the delivery.
And please be aware that Instacart marked up 4 of the 5 items I delivered.
I spoke with the folks at the Wegmans Service Counter and they said Instacart does their deliveries. I pointed out they were the recommended delivery person... it's just Instacart for an extra $22.64 , plus that 7 day hold on my credit card.
So think...
Read moreGreat grocery store. Clean, well-lit, and modern. Well-stocked. Good produce. Friendly, helpful staff. Sushi bar. Pre-prepared hot foods for lunch/dinner. Subs bar. Good place to shop. But... They have some limitations on their inventory. Many times we have had to go to other stores in the area to get specific items we want/need/desire. Also, they tend to push their store brand items over name brand items. For instance, if you want specialty teas (matcha, etc.), you must go to the health foods section, as the generic "tea and coffee" section displays mostly their store brand teas. Some teas, like the Lipton Matcha green tea with mint they don't carry (go to Tops). If you want crystalized ginger, they have their brands in the bulk foods section, but not the Mariani brand we prefer (go to Price Chopper). You can find all of the basics you need. Just understand that it may not be a one-stop shopping experience here if you're looking for something...
