Adding a pedestrian and bicycle lane to the Tappan Zee bridge was a great idea. (By the way, I grew up in New York and prefer the old name). The website for the lane has a lot of good info. However, there are a few things you need to know. The noise level from traffic is very loud. Noise cancelling headphones should be worn. The lane seems a bit claustrophobic because there's a low cement wall on both sides. The pedestrians and cyclists are separate by a white line with little room to spare. Otherwise the view is very nice. There are six places with room to pull over and enjoy the view of the river, valley, and mountains. It's difficult to see the Manhattan skyline unless you're there on a very clear day. I recommend...
Read moreFirst time walking it. It was nice, but obviously it was designed by men. I would have had 2 walking walking lanes. One going and one coming back. Bike lanes I would have put on other side of the bridge. Quite a few bike riders were zooming across the path with little regard to walkers, nor were they following the posted rules. But to be fair, some walkers did walk in the bike lane for more space and would move when they saw a bike coming. Overall, it was a nice change of pace. Loved the resting areas with there different designations. I only did a mile as this is my first time. My sister runs it twice a day(YAY FOR HER). My goal is to be able to walk the full...
Read moreOverall positive experience with my biycle -- B U T theres room for improvement. Perhaps -- if possible upgraded the Westchester side parking lot to a multi level parking garage? The parking lot is way too small for the volume of people that visit by car. I arrived around 8:30 pm, and every spot was filled -- luckily i caught someone leaving, and I took the spot from there. The walkway and bikeway is as thin as the Brooklyn Bridge's bike/walkway. I'm sure this could of been prevented if they took into consideration that the bridge structure itself would make the walk way/bike way narrow. But, it's too late to...
