Is it really a mystery why movie theaters are struggling these days? My gf, son, sister, my nephew, and I went to see the 35th anniversary screening of the Ninja Turtles movie from the 90s the other night and let me tell you, the movie wasn't the only thing from the 90s. I don't go to this theater anymore because the Colonie Center one is newer and cleaner and has less undesirables attending that disrupt movies and ruin theater-going experiences but this movie was only playing at Crossgates so this was my first time back here in probably eight years. The whole facility is stuck in a time capsule. It doesn't look like it's ever been updated. All of the decor in the front where the concessions are located is all original from when it opened, which now looks tacky and outdated. The original tile flooring has been mopped over so many times that the texture has trapped decades of dirt and grime, giving the floor a dirty appearance despite technically being clean.
I could almost look past all this if the theater auditorium was clean and enjoyable but sadly that was not my experience either. The seats were as old as the rest of the facility. The chairs squeaked when you sat in them and many of them had duct tape on the back cushion where the seams were torn. Some were torn but didn't yet have duct tape on them at all. As a patron, this is a really bad look. It shows they really don't care about the look of their theaters. And at $20 a ticket, that's inexcusable. I couldn't help but think how dirty the seats were so I didn't touch them with my skin. I just sat with my hands in my lap the whole time.
I don't want movie theaters to disappear and I know they're struggling for patronage right now. But you gotta meet us halfway. Regal needs to invest a little in maintaining their theaters so we have a clean theater for us to visit and want to return to, especially at $20 a ticket. The theater industry is competing with home entertainment systems. Having a 70" OLED 4K screen and Dolby surround sound at home is not unattainable anymore. Not to mention the much cheaper popcorn and snacks. So what is Regal bringing to the table to draw me in? Because squeaky seats with duct tape on them ain't gonna cut it. Again, I know theaters are struggling now, but much of what I mentioned could've and should've been updated at least...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent to see Toy Story 4 the night it came out at 7:45pm here. My tickets that I brought did not register for some reason so I had to go over to guest services and speak to a manager about it. The problem was that I had tried to enter it on the Regal app and it denied my request and invalidated my tickets. I explained this to the manager and she told me I better not be lying... I felt very offended by that statement. I had tried for 30 minutes on the app to find a phone number I could call but there was only an email option. So I kept on trying different things, I ended up spending 36,000 points by accident and having to go to the theater just to get my tickets. It seems like a really bad system to me, but sadly that was not the only bad system they had in place. When I went to get popcorn 15 minutes before the movie started I had seven people cut infront of me and every single staff member working the counter including the manager saw this happen and was fine with it. Once I got to the counter and ordered my large popcorn I had to wait even longer because the manager decided to overfill my already full popcorn before giving it to me which made it spill on me every time I took a step. When I finally got to my seat the movie had already started. On top of all of this not a single worker smiled and the manager had the worst frown of all. Now on to the physical aspects of this theater. When you first show up you cannot read what movies are playing due to how old their screens are. It is clean for the most part, it is a movie theater... Everything is very outdated especially for regal which had just went through a transformation. The seats in the theaters are incredibly uncomfortable and stiff, they have a small concession stand on the second floor which would be very usefull but I have never seen it open and ive been going to that theater ever since the had the original Finding Nemo. They lack security and security cameras in the theaters. I would highly advise going anywhere else to watch a movie unless you do not care about anything I have...

For instance, a friend with us mentioned that the seats were uncomfortable and the facility appeared somewhat dirty, including the restrooms. ļæ¼ ⢠Customer Service: Some experiences highlight less-than-ideal customer service.
