What an awkward experience. My daughter has been wanting to try this place for a while now. We grabbed two of her friends and drove an hour to the mall to check it out. We are 45 minutes from Saratoga and good seafood places are much closer than this place. We went on a Friday, we expected to wait. We walked into the entrance and waited. For about 15 minutes. Two bartenders and probably 4 servers saw us and didn't speak to us. Finally a hostess came out and we waited another couple minutes and went to a table. Where we waited longer. For a very frazzled server to come over. Apologizing like crazy for the wait. He was very overwhelmed. I work in a restaurant. I told him to relax and we are not in a rush. We got drinks. I wanted to try this blue drink I saw someone drinking at the bar, but he couldn't figure out what it was. And I couldn't figure it out by reading the cocktail menu. Oh well. Our server did however help us order all the different kinds of seafood in whatever packages we wanted. Flavors and heat temperatures. We also tried fried rice for those of us that didn't like seafood. It was delicious and reasonably priced! We had chocolate cake and fried white fish and Shirley temples. Overall the food was good. The server was good but overwhelmed. And no one else even worked there. Except this one guy. That was running around like crazy. We would return for the food. And hope they figure out the staffing situation. Especially on a Friday...
Read moreI would not recommend! I have been in the past and it was great! Last night my experience was terrible! I’m not sure if they switched owners or what goes on, but you literally stand by the podium with no one there, waiting and waiting. Finally you get sat, the girl says nothing to you and then walks away, someone comes back she’s our server who wasn’t half bad. But while there multiple workers standing around, eating and so on. I’ve worked in a restaurant before and that’s just not what you do. I had said something to my boyfriend about her walking around just eating soup like it’s no big deal, she comes over to the bar area where we sat clapping her hands this is the first meal she had all day blah blah blah, no one fault but your own lady. Sooo lucky I have respect and didn’t say anything back just ignored it, but she went back in the kitchen and I swear told the cooks something because I got the clam boil and let me tell you they must have poured and entire thing of garlic powder in my food because it was disgusting! Our service did not come over to check on how the food was until my boyfriend was done eating. In my opinion very trashy and unprofessional...
Read moreShopping through Crossgates during a weekend afternoon we actually stumbled on the very small mall based access for Aloha Krab and were greeted by a life sized Jack Sparrow statue (nice touch).
Being a chain, the restaurant is very thematic to the type of cuisine...you definitely know you're in a seafood restaurant (in a good way). This particular restaurant is quite large with 6 person banquettes lining the side, a large open seating area in the middle and a bar as well. We visited during mid-day period between lunch and dinner so there were only a few patrons but this place looks like it is designed to handle a lot of people.
As you'd expect from a resto call "Aloha Krab", you are visiting because you love seafood. There are a vast number of options for seafood lovers all of which looked good. We ordered the "Pick Your Catch" option with Scallops (very good), the Fried Shrimp Basket (can't go wrong with fried shrimp) and Crabmeat Fried Rice (Best Ever!...was a crowd pleaser).
Service was good although, for a mid-day near empty restaurant I did find it took a little bit longer than it should have....but, more importantly, the seafood was very...
