Taylor's Hearth & Leisure — Attraction in Town of Hempstead

Here is my TEN STAR review.......we have been living in our Atlantic Beach home from new construction 1988. We determined the original fireplace in our den was inefficient in every way. Our general contractor told us the go to the one and only Taylor in Franklin Square. We made an appt, although not needed and spoke with 2 very nice salespersons that spend more then expected time with us. There was ZERO sales pressure and in fact they said think it over and come back for a 2nd discussion. We were interested in The Mendota radiant heat unit. We were fairly quoted to buy, install, and remove old unit and left a deposit. The installation was scheduled earlier then expected and ever since then we are questioning why we did not do this year’s ago. We use far less heat in our home as a direct result of this Mendota fireplace with a great remote that even can be set as a thermostat to turn on and off at a specific temperature you can select. Great feature because honestly it can get very warm. The unit has functioned perfectly for 2 years and just yesterday it would not turn on. I called first thing in the morning today and after a few phone instructions were attempted, a technician came at 3pm. Eddie was his name. Super polite, efficient and fixed and serviced my Mendota unit and when I asked how much? The answer NO CHARGE. He explained over time the sensor contacts for the pilot got dusty and clogged and he simply used a metal brush to clear up. He also cleaned the inside of the glass as that is usually sealed.

My family actually felt a loss without the fireplace working last night and our relaxation was not the same.

Horrible company to do business with. Tried to get me to use their installer to put in the gas line, unlicensed, told me I did not need a permit however when I checked I did need a permit which I had to do myself. After obtaining the permit I scheduled the fireplace installation. The installers could barely speak English and were intent on shortcutting the installation. They did not want to recess the unit or cut the floor so the marble was flush. They took three days to complete the installation because their equipment was broken, even had to borrow my saw blade. After the installation was complete we had to have the moldings and spackling re done and we noticed there was a defect in the marble surround, there was a hole in the marble that was filled with epoxy. I contacted Dennis the owner and to date he has refused to rectify. I will now be hiring professional contractors to repair the condition and bringing a civil action against Taylor to recover my money. Avoid headaches and do not deal with...

It's been over 3 months since we've ordered the fireplace and we're still waiting for the log set. When calling them, they say that they're with a customer and will call us back but then never do. Many other retailers have the log set in stock, so there's no excuse for the delay, nor ignoring a customer.

*Update: Soon after posting this review, the manager called us and apologized for the delay and for not calling us back as promised. He said that he wasn't aware that we wanted the fireplace finished in a timely manner (why wouldn't we?) and that he would try to expedite the log set delivery. They finally installed the log set today and they provided a discount from the final payment as compensation. I updated this review and the rating to reflect their work in...
