As previous reviewers have noted, this company sells used or refurbished products labeled as new to unwary customers, makes the return process more complicated then necessary, then refuses to stand behind its products.
I bought some SteelSeries 7 speakers recently from Ted's. These speakers were advertised and priced as new, not used or refurbished. If you are not familiar with SteelSeries, they make great speakers. This purchase was actually my second set of speakers for a second computer.
When they arrived, the packaging appeared normal enough. I began assembling everything (as I had just done recently with my first set of SteelSeries speakers), and all was going well until I got to connecting the right speaker to the subwoofer. I could not connect the speaker to the subwoofer, no matter how many times I tried (gently, mind you, not hard enough to bend the prongs). The pattern on the connector from the speaker did not appear to match the connector on the subwoofer, so I assumed that there was a manufacturing defect or a simple mismatch in connectors.
I contacted Ted's and arranged to return the speakers. After they received them, Ted's told me that they would not refund my money or send me a new set of speakers because the speakers had been used. Although that initially stirred me to anger, Ted's actually may have been correct about that. The speakers did appear to be used, as I later learned. The thing was, I was not the person who used them. I, myself, never got to use the speakers because I could not connect them.
I told them not to return them to me and that I would simply dispute the charge. They returned them to me, anyway. When I examined the connectors under magnification, I could see that the prongs on the connector were not mismatched, but were simply bent. Badly bent, way out of alignment with the connector on the subwoofer.
Using magnification and some expensive jeweler's tools I have, I managed to painstakingly restore the prongs to their correct positioning and connect the speaker successfully. It appears to be working correctly, now. Rather than waste any more time and effort disputing the charge or communicating further with Ted's, I am just accepting the outcome. The speakers work and sound great, even if they are used/refurbished. And I already wasted too much time on this simple purchase.
In any event, I would never buy anything from Ted's Electronics again, and if you are reading this and are smart, you won't buy anything from Ted's Electronics, either. This is a dishonest company that has absolutely zero integrity and zero skill in customer relations. There's a reason why Ted's Electronics has prices that appear too good to be true on certain items, and that reason is because IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. You are probably not getting what you ordered...
Read moreI was shopping for a set of Sony XM5 head phones doing a price comparison and Ted's store came up with the best price, actually $69.00 Cheaper than Amazon. I have never heard of Ted's electronics before and didn't even know where they were located, but I rolled the dice to save some money and boy am I glad I did.
Teds electronics communication was like nothing I have experienced in my life. From the time I placed the order I got the following email alerts. A thank you with a confirmation of my purchase. Later that day I got a confirmation that my order was being packaged at the warehouse. The next day I got a confirmation that Fedex had picked up my package for delivery. Later that day I got a confirmation that a Fedex tracking number has been populated along with a link to track the package. Next I got a confirmation from Ted's saying that the package will be delivered by such and such a date. I signed up with Fedex to track the package from that point. The day before the package arrived, Ted's electronics sent me a courtesy email asking me to open the package and inspect everything to make sure everything was in tact and good order along with a guarantee that if I was not 100% satisfied that Ted will do whatever it takes to make me happy, including a full refund if necessary.
Everything was in perfect order and arrived when promised. My experience shopping with Ted's electronics was without a doubt the best online experience I have ever had. Not only did they beat Amazons price by $69 on a $400 purchase, they kept me in the loop every step of the way offering me 100% satisfaction or they will make it right. I have never experienced this with any online purchase before.
Bottom line, my shopping experience with Ted's was absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend them to anyone and I will without a doubt be doing business with them again. More so that Amazon. Thank you so much...
Read moreI purchased an electric shaver from this merchant via Bed, Bath, & Beyond. When asked for a return, they first required a restocking fee which I rejected. Dragging their feet then they claimed they cannot approve a return due to the item being a "hygiene" one. Bed, Bath & Beyond has been useless in the whole process, contrary to Amazon which interferes when a merchant gets unruly. Back and forth conversation has been going on for a while and now they claim that the return window has closed. How could I return when no return authorization is received? The opportunity cost for me for a meager less than $100 worth item is multiple fold of the amount. Interestingly, Bed, Bath & Beyond declines to post my review.
I am disgusted with these crooks, as well as with Bed, Bath & Beyond. You are well advised just to be careful with both.
Update 2/17/2025: Teds Electronics' response doesn't make sense and it is as dishonest as their entire process on this return. I don't know what policies of Bed, Bath & Beyond they are referring to prohibiting a refund by the merchant as throughout they were forwarding the communications to Teds Electronics. This is a lame excuse and won't fly. I just called Bed, Bath & Beyond and they stated no objection to the refund even without returning the item due to...
