I had an extremely terrible experience at this gym. On 3/24/22 a little past 12:30 PM I went to use one of the machines (Functional Trainer), which has two cable pulleys on the left and right, and a pull up bar in the middle. As I went to use the pull up bar, a guy using the left cable pulley started getting extremely aggressive, using bullying/intimidation tactics. I refused to back down, bringing the 40 lb dumbbell right below the pull up bar to stand on (I’m only 5 ft 5 in). Still agitated, the guy body slammed me, knocking both the weight and myself to the ground. Thankfully someone intervened on my behalf. I immediately went to the front desk to report the incident and the Operations Manager, Christopher F. said he would speak to the gym member who assaulted me. Later that night I called to follow up with Christopher F., and he had the nerve to blame the incident on me, claiming I should’ve asked permission to use the Functional Trainer. (The gym member was only using the left cable pulley) He refused to take any disciplinary action against the gym member, claiming that it was a “simple misunderstanding”.
The following day I called up LA Fitness corporate and they told me a District Manager would call me back. Not hearing back for a few days, I went to my home club in Lake Success and spoke to Operations Manager Daisy V. about the incident. At first she told me she would contact Christopher F., but I wanted a higher up. She told me a District Manager would follow up with me. Another week went by and I heard nothing. I spoke to her again on Monday 4/11/22, and gave a vague answer, claiming the District Manager would contact me that week.
When I left the gym I contacted corporate again asking to speak to the District Manager. For the third week in a row I was told he was in meetings and wasn’t available. Later that night, I was contacted by the District Manager Todd. Todd viewed the security cameras and told me he’d contact me again. Wednesday 4/13/22 Todd left a message basically reiterating what Christopher F. said and that the member who physically assaulted me was let off the hook with just a warning.
There should be a ZERO tolerance policy to physical assault of any kind in this gym.
It has been made clear to me that LA Fitness condones physical assault of...
Read moreWow what service! If I could give zero stars I would. Been a paying customer for a long time. I've never been so disrespected by a memeber of your staff. On Saturday Oct. 5 at approximately 10am I was harassed and threatened by the head trainer of the La fitness in Garden City Park, Ron Shaw. His attitude and aggressive behavior was unprovoked and uncalled for. While my wife and I were working out and as I was using a bench, Ron Shaw approached us and stated " I need to take this bench from you". At this point Mr. Shaw did not introduce himself. After telling him we will be a few more minutes he then proceeded to state that he was the director of the personal trainers and that a client needs this bench. I simply stated I wasn't done using it and that you can't just take equipment away from paying customers. This outraged Mr. Shaw to the point were I was threatened " I'll see you later" and he acted completely unprofessional. He stated my membership was canceled and continued to threaten me in front of my wife.
I can not believe this person represents La fitness and I couldn't believe how out of line he was. I am very upset and unhappy with my experience and my wife and our family will be canceling our memberships. I was a personal trainer and owner of a small facility for many years and never would I have treated a customer with such disrespect. That right way to handle this situation would have been from the approach. If Mr. Shaw approached us and simply introduced himself and explained the situation we would have been more than happy to have moved. But Mr. Shaw was out of line and disrespectful from the very start. Be aware this gym management does not put their...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars, I would. This location is so poorly managed, it's absurd. Compared to the other locations, this one is below the bottom of the barrel. Not only is it filthy and grimy, but half of the machines do not work. Machines have been out of order for WEEKS on end with no signs of being repaired in sight. Being that machines are commonly broken, there should be better management/enforcement of the 20 minute use while people are waiting rule. For example, only 2 stairmaster machines are working (out of like 5 of them), and a young girl must have been on one of the only working ones for AT LEAST 45 minutes while 3 people were waiting. While talking to the others who were waiting, we all found it absolutely ridiculous that no one was enforcing the rule, which was clearly posted on the walls right near the machines, and eventually decided to leave and go to a different location. It is an unfortunate experience, but I am glad that I was able to connect with others who I am able to relate because of our shared views of how horrible this location is. Do yourself a favor and go to either the Garden City location or the New Hyde Park location. Either of those are MUCH better options and are run much better. Honestly, they should knock this location down and put...
