I love this hotel itself for the rooms and facilities. It’s such a breath of fresh air amongst the many chain hotels in Poughkeepsie. I book hotels in the area often to visit with my partner who comes to town, and the heartwood is the nicest option for the price point.
The restaurant in the hotel is also a welcome change from the many uninspired options in this area! I’ve eaten there many times while staying at the hotel and otherwise and they always knock it out of the park!
This would be beyond 5 star for me if there were better customer service. I have had some minor issues with getting things I need, etc, but nothing serious. My biggest complaint is that I often want to check in early - my partner will typically arrive in town early - and am met with no flexibility to their protocol.
Last I stayed, I called ahead and was told I should be able to get a room no problem. Yet when I arrived mid day, knowing full well the hotel was not fully booked, I was charged $75 to check in early to have housekeeping address my room first - and still made to wait 90 min in the lobby. It takes 30 min to turnover a room. I also was told they couldn’t give me a different room because I booked through a third party which I believe is not true - many hotels I stay at upgrade if they have it available.
I’ve worked quite a bit in hospitality and I am well aware of the many ways this could be handled differently.
If I stay at a nearby chain I can check in no problem. I think it’s in poor taste to pinch money from a regular guest and I have since gravitated toward other hotels for their flexibility.
I think this place would be perfect if the care for guests was more on par with the beautiful...
Read moreThe Heartwood exceeded my expectations. The property is beautiful with original works of art making it very boutique like. Beautiful comfortable public spaces inside and out. Be sure to check out the library which has hand painted walls-stunning. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Rooms were large with walk in showers with a bar for shaving legs and a makeup mirror. Beds were so comfortable and the pillows were great. We slept great, the hotel was very quiet. Each guest receives a complimentary aluminum water bottle that can be filled on site at numerous filling stations around the hotel. The second floor balcony was great. A farmer's market was going on right outside the property and it was a lot of fun. Parking is free and close. Also some shops and restaurants immediately surrounding hotel. Close to all the museums and must see attractions Hudson Valley has to offer. We will be back. Oh, I forgot the continental breakfast - delish! Lots of pastries, fresh fruit, overnight oats, coffee...
Read moreWe had an amazing last minute stay after our car broke down outside of Poughkeepsie. Although arriving at 11PM, the front desk staff was more than welcoming, even giving our dog a treat.
The room was brand new, well cleaned, and you could tell a lot of care went into the creation. Lots of nice details - mini fridge, robe, and an espresso machine. We only peeked our heads in, but the fitness facilities looked amazing.
The included breakfast exceeded all expectations. Overnight oats and chia pudding, fruit, and toast were all really good and the staff attentive.
All in all we had an amazing stay and I’d love to come back!
To the hotel: the water served at breakfast tasted less than ideal - I know there’s not much to do about tap quality but just as an FYI. Also, offering a bowl for those checking in with dogs would be a really nice...
