I basically grew up at the Sandy River since I was 6yrs old..I wish they had more garbage/recycle cans at every pull off or park site, there should be at least 1 port o potty, washing station like feet, or something along that nature, IT LACKS!!! I like they added Lifeguards for safety, but I literally didn't see ANY OF THEM doing a DARN THING today, 4th of July.. This place was PACKED, from small kids, to groups pf inner tubers, or kayakers and or paddle boarders, as I sat there, most of the people looked REALLY YOUNG, maybe High school and younger, some parents were off floating leaving thier 10 and under kids STILL IN THE WATER ALONE without supervision... I recall how I was always shown how shifty this river is, how the bottom moves and chnages (even in lower water), they're rocks you can break your ankle, yet NOT 1 CONCERNED ADULT about these kids alone in the water with being young, but ALSO the lofeguards not even noticing either.. Kept my eyes peeled on the kids the whole time today to make sure we didn't have an awful casulty on 4th of July... Shoot there was even younger couples on top of the start street bridge, I observed SEVERAL TIMES trying to jump... I won't come here anymore, I'm afraid of coming to enjoy my time in nature, to have someone DIE because the so called lifeguards stuck to thier tower the entire tine, 1 guy put on a wetsuit, he just went for a luxurious swim instead of doing his job, oh and sunbathed on the rocks!!!...
Read moreCame here for a private celebration on a very hot day! Our party used the community building. It was a nice size with clean bathrooms and a nice size kitchen. I believe it accommodated a group of about 100 people.
Fyi: the building does not have AC. It was Very hot in the building for an evening (5-8pm) event.
I did notice a super cool bbq outside that is made with bricks and looks like you could cook for a large gathering with it.
There is a parking lot that shares with parking for river access and a small restaurant. On this particularly hot Friday evening the parking lot was full!
There is handicap parking and some paved smooth paths. You can get to the bathrooms and playground by level paved paths.
Lots of picnic tables and grassy areas very nicely shaded. The playground was not huge, but had slides and swings. It was right next to a basket ball hoop.
I did not go down any paths to the river this visit, but it looked like they were a bit rougher and sloped.
Safety note: Since it is close to a drop off that leads to a river you do have to keep a close eye on kids. The park itself felt very safe. It was clean and...

He just shook his head no at me without saying anything-until I finally had to ask. I drove in the heat and traffic all the way to this park to paddle board with the dogs after doing research online. There is no information posted on the websites I looked at about the no dogs policy.
I'm sick of being treated like a criminal or an outcast for having well trained dogs. And any park that has to have two police cars and an ambulance posted there seems unsafe. Perhaps the presence of some good dogs would make it a little safer.
This place is very uptight not relaxing etc. do not go to this park if you think you're going to have a fun day at the river....
