Barn Exhibit Hall & Troutdale Historical Society — Local services in Troutdale

This place was really interesting and could be a bigger attraction if more knew about it. Essentially, it is a museum of the Columbia River Highway: America's 1st Scenic Byway, and they should rename it something like that so more people know what this museum is all about (and add a cool sign on the nearby highway.) It's actually very interesting. The treacherous roads in the rainy and therefore, muddy roads, became practically impassable and a few good men envisioned a different way to travel in a time of a new concept: the personal motorized vehicle. This is a cute little set of museums just past downtown Troutdale. What the lack in quantity they make up for in quality. They have a great exhibit on the history of the old highway and it's local businesses. The staff are friendly and genuinely seem to have fun working there. We had a very informative visit to the Barn Exhibit Hall and the Harlow House. It was fascinating to learn about some of Troutdale's early history, much of it surprisingly colorful!
