Friday, January 5th, 2024 during the night shift (6 am-6 pm) a Banner PAS by the name of Amanda, aggressively and violently put her finger in my face and told me I could not be in the ER room with my parents, per a two visitor policy. Had she not become instantly incensed, she would have seen my visitor's pass on my shirt and learned I received permission to bring my mother's medications, drinks, and cleaning supplies as the "room" my immune compromised parents were in still had some else's urine sample in it, the drink machines in the lobby were broken, and my mother, along with her husband, are, as alluded to above, severely immune compromised.
Amanda became belligerent, first threatening to call security to have me removed and making that call, then calling to see if my pass was valid, all before understanding I was allowed to be there. Because of Amanda's clearly unpredictable behavior (yelling, obviously unable to control her behavior, physically being aggressive while operating in what should have been a professional capacity, committing and confirming HIPAA violations were taking place, while also admitting that my comment regarding possible HIPAA violations is what upset her more so than my presence as a visitor) my 5'2 mother stepped in front of her to prevent her from physically touching me while PAS Amanda continued stepping forward, yelling, and pointing her finger.
This is my mother, whose husband is currently battling stage 4 cancer and was sent to Banner ER via ambulance from a doctor's appointment at the Cancer Center with a blood pressure of 185/101. He waited nearly 5 hours to be seen, only to be given a room with a chair for himself, my mother, and two strangers in a curtain divided room, meant for one patient. A third visitor with permission and a visitor's pass should have been the least of Amanda's concerns once she confirmed the HIPAA violations. Yes, these violations were noticed and confirmed by an RN and the PAS Amanda.
The other patient in the room changed from two individuals to a nurse dressed in scrubs, possibly wearing RN badges, who appeared to work with the hospital in some capacity. This woman had glasses, short spikey blond hair, was a bit heavy set, and had a softball injury the day before and may be fighting thyroid cancer. I shouldn't know that without knowing her personally, knowing her name, or her consenting to share that information. This poor woman, in a similar situation being stuffed into this tiny room with strangers with only a curtain dividing and an aggressive, rude, unprofessional employee of Banner (PAS Amanda), became aggressive, rude, and wildly unprofessional herself. She cursed my mother. She told my 60+ year old mother to shut the fck up and get the fck out after I had left. While I understand her frustration, she too was potentially a representative of Banner and acted beyond unprofessional, no matter what the circumstances.
If Amanda, the RN neighbor sharing the single ER room with my parents, and the obvious state of affairs (extreme wait times, no actual treatment, violent uncaring verbally abusive staff, broken drink machines, urine left in dirty poorly divided rooms, patients in hallways with handwritten "room" numbers above their chairs, glaring HIPAA violations) at this location are any indication of the standard of care and level of service routinely offered, not only can I not recommend sending anyone here, I truly believe it should be shut down (or capacity reduced) and investigated to the fullest extent allowable. Chiefly for egregious HIPAA violations, but additionally for a standards and practices review, staff training and evaluation, and performance tracking with definitive metrics to measure success, that should include a process to formally utilize customer/patient input.
If the hospital administration contacts me with steps that will be taken to remedy these glaring issues and does not provide a stock response below this review, they may be working on it and future reviews will reflect changes.
I pray no one else has...
Read moreMy doctor sent me by ambulance to the ER. Unable to walk, losing consciousness, heart rate abnormal, high blood pressure, shivering. The ambulance dropped me in the lobby to sit on a chair with oxygen by my side and no wheelchairs available. I had been in Banner two days prior, where I was left on a hard chair with 0 attention for the whole of seven hours after triage. No doctor in sigh but a silly MA and a very pompous millennial RN who couldn't give a hoot. Thanks God for the male nurse who was kind enough to give me some water. But yesterday when I was dropped by the ambulance the whole room looked that I had landed in some refugee camp in Biafra. Packed with seriously ailing mainly seniors left to rot in those ridiculous chairs. What is wrong with Banner? Shouldn't a senior be given some priority when they are seriously ill or at the very least be provided with some comfortable place to lay down? What is the matter?, Banner not making enough money from private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid? They do have the money to splash out in fabulous architecture, would it break their bank to treat sick people with care? The place looked filled to the brim with people that look like Holocaust survivors. What kind of care is that? Oh I forgot this month a lot of residents are graduating so we have to wait for new ones to come in, my bad. A very nice girl sitting with her family saw in what shape I was, and another person next to his ailing wife protested to the staff. It took 3 days for banner to find out that I had a kidney infection and now my doctor wanted them to put me on antibiotics iv. The nice girl was ever so kind, huge difference to the very entitled and self important hospital staffers. She called a taxi and kept me company and helped me out of the room. Had the imbeciles at Banner Urgent care in Broadway and craycroft actually given me the right test two weeks ago I would have not have the infection at this stage. Holy Cross in Nogales gave me the correct antibiotics on the spot after they did a cat scan and took no chances to wait for the urine culture to come back. Day before after I was sitting for seven hours at Banner I was told everything look so good I could go home. These people shouldn't ever be near an ailing person? This place is a serious mess, it has cost me and my insurance a lot of money with added ambulance trips. The worst part of all this is how they respond when one complains, I am sure this review is going to get another scripted ladi la . They can go and sit on an egg. The university of Arizona should focus in preparing students to be nicer, and less self inflated. On my last though, it takes approximately a month and a half to have a follow up appointment with your regular banner physician if not even more, no wonder we all end up in the emergency room. Less architectural development and more decent health care! If you don't come to this emergency room with a profitable billable condition you might as well get...
Read moreHello everyone I would like to share with you all my experience with Banner. I'll start out by saying AMAZING STAFF, well on the first building 5th floor, which is the baby delivery area. I can't speak for the whole hospital just that area, first off it was very very clean and the nurses and doctors were very and I mean very knowledgeable. Me and my wife had our first child on July 10th and we were very scared to choose a hospital and we were recommended to Banner on speedway and Campbell, the best hospital so far that we recommend to anyone having a child, the service was impeccable, the food was pretty good for hospital food, and the peace and quiet was very great as well, overall it was almost the perfect experience. Now let's talk a little about payments; so when our bill came up I was afraid cause like a lot of us we either have health insurance or not. The staff helped us to get approved by ahccs and they helped to apply for a credit card for hospital bills. I was afraid because of how little money was in my pocket compared to the payment that had to be given but they did their best to give us a hand and instantly approved for the credit card. They made calls and had us approved for ahccs as well. They are their to help not screw anyone over so if you decide on a hospital and are starting out with no insurance or low income, banner is there to help you and the U of A students are very spirited and excited to be there that they go above and beyond to help any patient. Guys I can't tell you enough how I recommend banner, unless you have an exquisite insurance and they recommend another hospital then go for it, as I'm sure all other hospitals do an impeccable job. People save lives and banner is very impeccable on doing that job right. HIGLY RECOMMENDED HOSPITAL!!!! A++++ Amazing job Banner staff on the 5th floor, never change this world needs more people like all of you, we can't thank you enough for making our experience amazing ❤️ please read my post and take in to consideration that this hospital is top notch!!! Have a great day everyone and please be nice to everyone you never know when they will help you or the world in any...
