Whiskey Del Bak is a delight to visit! We visited for my birthday, and the owner made the whole experience special. We got to try 5 different flavors, all of which were exceptional in their own unique way. The Old Pueblo was sweet, and flavorful. It was unlike any new make spirit that I've ever had. And I'm a whiskey enthusiast. This new make spirit had a lot of similarities to tequila. I could see myself making great tasting drinks with it.
My favorites were the Dorado and the Summer 2022 selection. The Darado in my opinion it had notes of caramel, cinnamon, vanilla, campfire, and barbecue smoke. I feel like I could pare this with a nice Steak, or smoked barbecue. The Summer 2022, to me, had notes of maple, brown sugar, hickory smoke, vanilla, caramel, tobacco, and chocolate. I would pare this with bacon, pancakes, and eggs. Or a nice dessert.
The Normandy to me had heavy black pepper notes, and was very fruit forward. The Classic was similar to that of a speyside scotch with bourbon qualities, in my opinion.
I can say all around, that all expressions shared the same herbal, fruity, and sweet characteristics similar to that of scotch, but has the candied flavor of bourbon, with the Dorado and Summer 2022 offering added notes of meat, smoke, and candied fruit. All bottles would be great on their own, with the Dorado and Old Pueblo shining in a cocktail.
Adding a bottle/multiple bottles to my personal bar, has added a little taste of Arizona to my collection. This distillery shines bright amongst other whiskey, by pushing the envelope in what American distilleries can make, and what American Whiskey can be. It's a genuine treat, 100%...
Read moreAn absolutely outstanding distillery visit and extraordinarily sin. A SVgle malt whiskey experience. Several weeks ago my brother found a bottle of Del Bac Dorada single malt wheskey distilled in Tucson Arizona at our local Cosco store. We were very impressed by the Mesquite smoked whiskey produced just miles from our home in the south-east Arizona desert.
We made an online reservation for tour of the distillery on Friday e evening. We were greater outside the entrance by our hostess/tour guide Janene with a cocktail while I had a quick smoke. O d inside We began very comprehensive tour of the distillery with every step of the production cycle fully described with numerous process videos. We even had the opportunity to tast the barley before a d after smoking with the unique Sonoran desert wood, as well as tasting the "beer" before the first distinction.
Following the tour we had a tasting of Del Bac's three rditions: Classic, a non-smoked single malt, Dorado, and Diablo, a white lightning.
The experience lasted nearly an hour and 45 minutes. While have visited many distilleries in Scotlanx, I have never had such a complete and comprehensive tour before.
Del Bac began production in 2011, and is only now reaching full marketing. Expect special finishings in the near future.
Tours are by online reservation only and you will need a navigation app to find the distillery in the back of a industrial park.
PS: the very friendly distillery cat helped conduct the tour and tried to join the tastings. Please advise in advance if you are...
Read moreWhat is NOT to love about this place?! My dad and I stopped here as our last stop of a road trip. Both of us had previously had various Whiskey Del Bac bottles in our home bars, but had never stopped in for a tour.
So, while we were passing through Tucson, we thought "Why not?"
Dare I say it might have been the best stop of the entire road trip. First off, the whiskey they make is amazing, so if you're only coming for the tasting portion of the tour you're still in good hands. But, there was so much more that we weren't expecting.
Jessica is the distillery experiences manager, and she is AMAZING. She was so kind, personable, and easy to talk to. Our tour guide, Ian, was one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever met about the process of distilling, and really took the time to answer any questions we had during the tour.
I've been on a few distillery and brewery tours previously and I have never had one where I felt the people cared about sharing their passions quite as much as Jessica and Ian did. The owner, who we also had the pleasure of meeting briefly, is doing something special here. Not only does he produce amazing whiskeys, but he does it while surrounding the process with amazing people.
I will go out of my way in the future to come back here- yes for the whiskey, but mostly for the people.
Jessica and Ian, you were...
