Before I moved to the are, visited to the local habitat restore were part of my daily routine. Drop my daughter at school, the go to the re-store early, so I could get first pick of the new items. I lived in a much smaller town then and buying resale maybe was not as popular as it is here, but there seems to be less quality items here than I am used to. Most of the furniture is badly worn and over priced and the appliances are usually really old and missing parts or otherwise damaged. You can buy some new supplies and assorted hand tools left over from some of their builds, but any used supplies and tools are junk. I usually leave the habistore disappointed as most of this stuff should be in the dumpster.
I miss my old habistore. So many good deals there. An example of some of my finds: a working Fender Rhodes vintage electric piano, $40; collectable BSA picket knife, $3; an entire kitchen of burch cabinets, $100; heavy duty steel office desk, $45; that's just a few of the items I bought over the years. I will never find deals like that in Tucson.
In general, used items in Tucson are overpriced, from Craigslist, to Goodwill, to yard sales and I believe it has alot to do with Mexico. There are alot of people from Mexico who make a living buying our used household items are reselling them at their stores in Mexico. It's great for them and I like knowing that all that stuff is not headed for a landfill when I see their dangerously overloaded trucks and trailers on I-19, It's a sellers market for used stuff in...
Read moreedit update: Dec 17, 2024. After all this time I thought I'd browse through again. I understand that the proceeds go to good, but I think this store forgets the clientele that tends to shop thrift stores! Used dinettes, couches, kid metal shelves, and dressers are ALL still priced insanely high. A metal shelf for kids $100. A dresser with stains all over the top $299. Maybe someone should start looking and comparing with prices on line with like marketplace. I still don't understand how this is called a "thrift store". Because it is anything other than thrift store prices. 2022: With the prices in this store, you can buy brand new pieces for the same price!!! Used dressers run $200, used couch sets are $200+. Coffee tables priced at $100 each, and that is ridiculous!!! They even have a dish (plates and cups) that are $75. Light fixtures, frames, etc are all insanely over priced!!! Whomever prices these items is in an alternate reality. These are used pieces at brand new prices!!!! *edit 4/4/2023 thought I'd stop in again and see if anything has changed. Nope. Prices are worse now. A nasty dirty couch is listed for $275. Again, just go out and buy new and save yourself the pain of stickershock in this...
Read morePlace is pretty big inside. More of like a wharehouse setting. They have a little of everything from tile , paint, lighting fixtures, cabinets and lots of funiture(dressers, entertainment center, tables, sofas, desks, ect). Everything was clean and organized. I know it goes for a good cause but the Prices are on the high side for being used, better to catch a tag color sale. I cam in 1 hour before closing time and starting meandoring around. Started comparing some bathroom sink cabinets and it got to closing time but some worker lady ran me out. Told me since it was closing time that I had to leave and they already shut down the registers and was locking the doors. There was 3 people in line waiting to purchase items so I felt she just wanted me gone and not have to load some cabinets. Maybe I'll be back depending on if I can't find anything cheaper. Their employees need a little more work on customer...
