Update: Customer service for this hotel called and went out of their way to make me less unhappy with the experience. You just don't see that these days, I'd definitely give them a second chance.
We got a pet friendly room for a one night stay. The entire floor, room, and elevators smelled like sweaty wrestling mats from the gym. The bathroom wasn't particularly clean looking, but I think it was because the tub was older. The beds and bedding were quite clean. The pool was greenish and had leaves in it. We also went down for the breakfast at 8:30--they serve breakfast from 6AM to 10AM. It was mainly defrosted frozen pastries, cereal, and waffles. The other Hampton Inns I've stayed at at least had breakfast meats, etc. We wound up driving partway home and looking for food in Casa Grande, because this hotel is in a sketchy area of town and we didn't want to drive further in to Tucson for food. Read moreThis hotel is located in a very bad neighborhood, surrounded by run-down/deserted buildings and businesses. While trying to unload our vehicle and get to our rooms we encountered numerous vagrants loitering around the outside of the hotel. A lone maintenance man was attempting to run them out of the area, but more showed up as we were trying to unload our luggage. We were traveling with our grandchildren and felt very unsafe trying to come in and out of the hotel, so we immediately returned to the front desk and asked to check out before we even made it to our rooms. We are long-time Hilton Honors members and have chosen Hampton Inn over all other hotels for the past 15 years. This is the first time that we have ever felt unsafe at a Hampton location. We were able to book the two rooms we needed at the Hampton Inn near the Tucson airport. It was not only in good location but cost almost $20 per night less per room than the Grant Road location. When we checked in my husband was quick to notify the front desk that the room smelled like smoke. The next day we checked out only to have our credit card charged 250$ for a smoking fee. All night people fighting in parking lot the next morning i went out to my car to see a man and his boyfriend in the car doing what should be done inside. When we called the hotel and spoke to the assistant manager Ashley she was rude and said they don't care what we say they won't reverse the charge she was rude unprofessional and I am glad we were gone.
