My kids and I stayed here for the first time April 9-10th. Ladies at front desk were very nice. After paying for water park tickets for the 4 of us, I chose it would be wiser to get a room for the night since the total was very expensive. $55 a person is ridiculous! This was the price it was because it was ‘spring break’. I paid $17 more for a room for the night and we got to enjoy the waterpark for two full days. It took the lady a long time to change everything for me, but I could tell she was fairly new and was learning. I didn’t mind! I also got there around 1-2pm and got a room immediately. Wasn’t expecting that. The room we had definitely could use a good deep dusting. As a former housekeeper, I tend to notice everything :) Nice room though. It was clean, except for the few places that would benefit from a deep dusting such as behind the tv, tv, and top of high shelves. The bed frames could use some updating. For safety reasons due to them sticking out a bit further than the mattresses. Beds were comfortable. Pillows were good. We slept great. Halls and hotel areas were always nice and clean. You can tell the waterpark gets cleaned good. Workers were always constantly going behind people, cleaning tables, etc. I think the water slide is a bit dangerous. I can’t believe they allow people to go down that, especially little kids. My kids and I were definitely frightened, especially the first time as we didn’t know what to expect. Water level is so low my butt got a bit of ‘rug burn’ to it. When going around the curve, that spot is a bit scary. Be ready to be jerked real fast. Kids went down a few times. The last time my son’s head went flying back and because of the fast sudden jerk motion, he complained of neck pain for 2 days. He didn’t go down again after that incident. I would assume someone who knows what to expect, may not mind it at all, but it wasn’t for me. There were times I couldn’t enjoy myself because all I could hear were lifeguards blowing their whistles. I get it, safety first! But, I just found it to be very annoying because at times that’s all I could hear. Most of the lifeguards looked as if they were being forced to work there. Very unpleasant looking. No smiles, no hello, nothing. Two incidents occurred where the pool had to be evacuated due to fecal matter being found. The lifeguards were very rude getting people out of there. More rude when/ if someone attempted to get in, after it was evacuated. Small kids don’t read signs. Yes, they absolutely should! But, it happens and the workers could have been nice about it. Especially when there were 2 sides of the pool ( where the jumping pads are and the side opening by the hot tub) that didn’t get a sign put up and kids running and having fun, aren’t gonna notice the pool had no one in it, or why. Perhaps using more signs would help or having 2 life guards, one on each side when it gets shut down, would prevent them from having to yell or blow their whistles that many times. I got a headache from it all and just couldn’t fully enjoy my time there. Just my opinion, that especially at a family oriented waterpark all workers should maintain a happy, friendly vibe. Two male workers were great. The one at the wave pool explained the wave pool in great detail, smiled at us and it was welcoming. He enjoyed watching the kiddos and helping them. Another one had a cool vibe to him as well. Always smiling, said hello to guests, and could tell he was enjoying watching guests have fun. The workers at food court on both days were great too. Very friendly. My son used the wave pool once. He liked it but due to the force of the water, and him not expecting that, he swallowed a bunch of water. His stomach hurt for awhile. The amount of chlorine and other chemicals is what he complained about. Perhaps that type of water, where you don’t need much, shouldn’t have such high levels of chemicals. Especially when it’s being blown into people’s faces like that. For that price and the headache I got, it definitely wasn’t...
Read moreRight away upon arrival and getting ready for the waterpark, our bathroom sink wouldn't drain. No problem. Maintenance came and fixed it. We went to the waterpark.
The waterpark is cool, and there are some cool features, but directions on how to do stuff aren't clear. For example, they have a wave rider experience, and my kids met the height requirement but were told they needed another wristband to use. I read through all the posted signs and no instructions on how to handle obtaining a secondary wristband. Yes, I could have asked, but sensory overload prevented.
It's very loud, nearly impossible to hear the person next to you due to the echo of the water and the screaming of kids. Much of that is to be expected at an indoor waterpark, but in addition, there was also no airflow, and it was so beyond humid that at times, I struggled to breathe. This is not the establishments fault. It's my own body that doesn't like it. But be prepared for extreme humidity.
After sweating our butts off playing in the waterpark, we went to the pool and played. My kids are crazy and love the water, so we were there until fairly late.
Back to the room, air conditioning doesn't work. Maintenance came down, and after quite the ordeal fixing it, while we were trying to relax, it still didn't work. But they said it would, and by this time, it was nearly midnight. The room temp never fell below 78 degrees all night. I'm very sensitive to this. Heat and humidity make me sick.. so again, this isn't the establishments' fault that I'm so sensitive, but it was advertised that there would be AC and there wasn't.
The tub drain also didn't work.
I forgot my toothbrush. I asked for one of those often kept at the front desk and was told they don't offer this but that the gift shop does have ones to buy and they open at 8am. (It was 7:45 am) I waited until 10 after 8, and they didn't open. They also closed at 8:30 or 9pm the night before, despite their hours saying they're open til midnight on Friday's, which was a bummer because I had planned on taking the girls there after swimming.
They left a flyer in the room explaining that they offer a "cookie monster" add-on. You can have cookies delivered to the room with some milk. I placed an order for dinner and asked for cookies as well. Turns out there is a 20% upcharge for room service. I canceled that and said I'd come pick it up. They told me 25 minutes. I arrived in 25 minutes and waited another 15 or 20 minutes in the restaurant for my food...with my kids back in the room.
They finally brought out my dinner and said "sorry we are still waiting on your cookies," so I stood there with food, getting cold for another 5 to 10 minutes.
The food was good. They forgot my drink (which was like $5), and the cookies were literally raw in the middle (like not being dramatic or facetious... they were straight up raw) but burned on the outside edges and underneath... I'm not even quite sure how that happens!
All in all, I was uncomfortable and inconvenienced literally the entire stay. They do not offer towels for the water park, and you're not allowed to bring the room ones into the park. So we used our own beach towels, but due to the lack of airflow in our room and at the park and the humidity, they never dried even a lick. Left with sopping wet everything.
My kids had fun. The beds were comfortable despite the lack of airflow or AC.
Oh... and additionally.. I booked a court side patio room and got a standard queen room facing the parking lot.
I won't be back.. but honestly not even becuase of the aforementioned reasons but because a single 24 hour trip for 2 kids and 2 adults (1 of the adults didnt even so much as dip a toe in the water) it literally cost over $400. Literally, ZERO bang for my bucks.
It's not the the stay was awful or that the place was terrible, but for that kind of price gouging - I'd expect to at least have working AC and towels accessible to make the stay comfortable AT LEAST!
Everything is expensive. Be prepared....
Read moreMy family and I (4 total - kids age 12 & 13) knew check in wasn't until 4pm but we drove 2 hours to get here so we went early at 1pm knowing we could get into the waterpark if room was not ready. It was not ready (no big deal - to be expected) but the reception was super nice and got us everything we needed to get into the waterpark and said we'd get a call once our room was ready. We did not get a call until after 4pm, almost 5pm when our room was finally ready. We got a first floor room with a patio and nice view, close to everything which was really nice. After going to Kalahari multiple times, this waterpark was very small. At least they have beer for adults when we start getting stir crazy. What made our stay horrible was the restaurant inside the hotel. We all ordered pop and the pop my daughter wanted, they were out of. She chose a different pop and after about 20 minutes of her not getting it and our waitress not being at our table, I had to wave her down to finally bring the pop. After almost an hour, we finally recieved our food. Their menu has ridiculous wording - it says "lil bites" then underneath it says "lunch and dinner" so my daughter ordered buttered noodles under the "lunch and dinner" wording which apparently it actually means kids menu. So she received about 15 noodles in a bowl - that were not even cooked all the way. We returned the dish and had them take it off our bill so all my daughter had for dinner was French fries. It looked like only 4 ladies were working the whole restaurant and 2 were not friendly and it looked like only 1 was the waitress for bar and tables. It was completely ridiculous. The table behind us asked for 2 sides of ranch and didn't receive them until after they had got up and left. My daughter had also snacked on a bag of chips before bed in the hotel room and placed the closed bag on the floor when she was done. The next morning the entire chip bag had so many ants inside and the entire floor where the bag was, was just covered in ants. It was real disgusting, I've never seen ants like that in a hotel room. It looked like the room had tried to look up to date with all the spacious cabinets but it still had a musty smell. The whole bed and bedding could definitely use an upgrade. The mattress was very springy and uncomfortable, the 4 pillows reminded me of hard sugar cubes, 1 pillow was the size of both my hands combined. Even though the view from the patio is pretty, our table was cracked off on both sides and there was a tube connected to the side of the building that occasionally had water coming out of it and opening had a big chunk of mold at the end. The water would go all underneath the table and around the patio so I wore shoes so I wouldn't step in the moldy gross water. The arcade is very small and does not accept cash - you have to load money onto a card so our kids did not play, which was disappointing. I'm glad our kids had fun but we probably will never return - especially for the price and horrible restaurant service. I will say the lady working the food court both the days we were here was exceptional (she had glasses). I only saw her have front help once and she had asked if the other girl minded if she took a break - I'd want a break to dealing with all these people alone all day but the other lady said it would be appreciated if she did not take a break at that time. I wanted to speak up and say let her have a damn break she's been working very hard and has been super nice and friendly. But it...
