Finally, I went to Papa Tom's for some vinyl records we were looking for constantly. It's like being kids in a candy store big time. The staff was so warm and welcoming to us & Skippy. They even had a treat for Skippy that he took and ate right away, so it kept him busy so Mama could shop. When we antique shop, you'll run across albums now and again, but not in fabulous condition. That's why I never bother with them knowing Vintage Vinyl records are looked at and determined if the albums are in great or not so great condition. They have every genre of music you're looking for from Rock, Country, Hip Hop, Electric, Euro, you name it, they definitely have it in stock. I found almost all the albums I was looking for, and a lot of them have never been opened, which is fantastic. Prices vary depending on if you want new ones to used ones. Like I stated, it's like looking for candy in a candy store as their selection is so huge. I walked out with so many I was looking for, and a lot of them were the only ones on stock, lucky me. Rare albums can definitely be found at Vintage Vinyl, and if your like me, cost isn't a problem. If I needed help finding an album, the staff brought me right to it, so big shout to the staff as they made me a happy camper. I can't say enough complimentary things about this store other than it's definitely the best record store in St. Louis. Yes, they have cds too, and so much more. Go check them out, as you will be surprised at what they have in stock. Now, I only have a couple of records I want for my collection thanks to...
Read moreI've mainly gone to them to sell albums, as they're one of the only places actively BUYING music/DVDs for cash in the area (Euclid didn't have enough cash to buy what I brought them and took 2 hrs to price 20 LPs -lol- before telling me this, and aside from V Stock, who are complete buns in terms of buy prices and I hit tough times during this recession I didn't have many other options. Seeing as store credit doesn't pay my mortgage) They pay, when generous, 20% value on LPs, and I'm talking about the new, nearly all post-2010 albums, majority rare presses either color vinyl or limited runs. Unfortunately had to sell off about $8k worth of vinyl/rare import/underground rap tapes/import CDs, and netted a total of maybe $1500. Very disappointing from a financial perspective, but as I said, unfortunately I needed cash quicker than discogs sales and PayPal holds would allow. Selection is meh, as a shopper. 95% new albums at retail. Not a ton of used stuff you'd be excited to find. It's mainly the buying process that bugs me. Be warned in advance, from someone who's sold hundreds of LPs,45s,DVDs, and Cassettes to them, that they go off of quantity, not quality/actual value. And I'm almost 100% sure of this. I've gotten more for a stack of CDs and bootleg tapes than I have for a stack of OOP limited to Sub-100 copy press vinyl (for the same # of items.) Really doodoo,...
Read moreVintage Vinyl is one of the few places left on the Delmar Loop that make the Delmar Loop a destination stop for tourists and locals. It is a destination stop for any music fan coming through St. Louis. This place is a living breathing Time Machine. I came here over the weekend for the first time since probably 2014 and it still looks the exact same as when I last was there and honestly it looks the same from when I was a teen in the 90’s. Is this good or bad? You’ll have to judge but it is definitely worthy of being called a landmark here in the STL and it does have a ton of great LPs and CDs. New and used and a great deal of variety. It caught my eye that they had the LP of Beyoncé new album. Hadn’t seen the cover yet and loved it. Went a little further in and saw some Stephen Stills in the LP section and just got lost in the albums they had. They have a massive collection but the aisles are wide and the labeling is very good. The staff are knowledgeable and they like their music like baristas like their coffee. Right across the street is one of the other major attractions on the Delmar Loop Fritz’s. This is a two story St. Louis local soda company’s premier restaurant and their food and ice cream floats are not to be missed. So my recommendation is to check this...
