After completing a vision test at my local VA clinic, I decided to kill some time by visiting my local Fort Vancouver old stopping grounds and discovered the old Ulysses S. Grant's House had been converted into a Bistro Cafe restaurant called "Willful." I decided to take a seat outside on the wrap around porch with a beautiful view overlooking the Fort Vancouver parade field. I got to enjoy a pear and candied nut salad with steelhead and a inhouse made pear soda and they provided a 10% military discount as well. So the whole me with discount was $34.50, plus tip! The building not only has front parking across the street next to the parade field, but behind the building as well for handicap assistance parking and handicap ramp to come in through the backdoor.

Going down Officers Row is a beautiful walk, as I love the old Colonial style houses. The Grant House is one of the oldest buildings at Vancouver Barracks, at 150 years old. It is now a restaurant called the Eatery at the Grant House. Before that, it had several uses. Ulysses S. Grant did not actually live here. He was posted at the Vancouver Barracks though in 1852. It became the Grant House after Mrs. Grant visited in 1879 (a post presidential visit). It was originally the home for the commanding officer of Camp Vancouver. The Grant House is a piece of American history, and definitely worth a visit

Went here for an afternoon tea celebration for my birthday. It is located in one of the cute history houses. Sadly I would not recommend. They lost our pre-paid reservation and was not ready for our group. It took 15 minutes to take our tea order and they ran low on pots so we had to share tea flavors. They also ran out of one of the tea flavors and left us with only 4 choices (limited to black and herbal tea packets you could purchase from Safeway). The food was nice but the overall experience was overpriced and we did not feel we got the value.

Beautiful place, beautiful surroundings. We had the same person serving us as we had spoken to on the phone shortly before entering. Condescending, unwelcoming and ignorant are how we would describe him, unfortunately. This was our first time visiting this establishment based on a recommendation we'd seen on social media. I was really excited to try the grilled cheese sandwich. I was disappointed, as it was not only very small in size but was extremely oily/greasy. Rather than ask us if we'd like it at the same time as our tomato bisque soup (which was very good), it was assumed that we wanted it afterwards. Grilled cheese & tomato soup go hand in hand right? When we politely asked if our sandwich was coming, we had yet another unfriendly response from a different member of staff. Not once did our server check in to ask how anything was or if we wanted anything else. But he did question us as to why there was only one empty soup bowl on the table and not 2 (may as well have come right out and asked if we'd stolen a soup bowl). Just awful. Needless to say we would not recommend this restaurant. I want to think we just chose the wrong day to go, but it wasn't overly busy and there were plenty of...

What a delicious dinner the 5 of us had for Father's Day! From the Mezze Board paired with the Willful Rose to the fresh pasta dishes of gnocchi and trafilata with wonderful sauces ... the inspired crab cake with asparagus and corn over mashed potatoes and the shrimp and grits were exceptional ... sadly, there were no left overs. And then we tried all 3 featured desserts ... my 87 year old mom demanded her own creme brulee ($th dessert) and finished it all. We sat on the porch and the whole experience was outstanding! Pam, the owner, has put her heart and soul into reviving the Grant House. Her wines are winners and won't disappoint the fussiests of wine connoisseurs. We'll be back very soon. Make a...
