Overall Voorhees 16 is very accessible, in a good location with a lot of great food options before or after your showing. It's relatively clean, and it's also very quiet. I can't very well hold other customers against a business since they have no control over that, but if you're going to see a movie in public with strangers... you want those strangers to be quiet and considerate. So it's actually very important. I haven't had any bad experiences here that I can recall. For this Voorhees 16 gets a pass...
If that's all you need to go out then go out. This next part is a personal thing. I have a lot of fond memories here. I remember when it was still the Ritz, when they didn't allow kids, when they showed more independent films. It is a respectable theater with a lot of history and has tried to hold out on its roots and its identity moving forward as AMC buys up and muscles out the competition. But AMC has had plans for Voorhees 16 and it's gone through some difficult transitions, at least for me as a customer and a film junky. I understand theaters have a lot to contend with today since we are a generation surrounded by screens. There is little point to theaters now when more content than we could ever consume is being delivered to us even in our pockets. Disney Plus will be a thing in a couple days as I write this, with its own movies and its own cinema quality shows that will likely never see a theater. And while I disagree with AMC's approach to the survival of their theaters, I understand they're necessary. Assigned seating, recliners, a restaurant-like atmosphere, all of these things are in the future for Voorhees 16. The other day I realized they instituted assigned seating here. It used to be just my ticket and my movie. Now I have to buy my ticket an engagement ring and decide if I'm seeing a film sometimes days in advance. With all that anxiety, I can't see how this is supposed to be easier than when I could wander in off the street and catch a movie. Also, if the point is to eventually give me a recliner that basically turns into a bed so i can feel like I'm at home watching this thing, then i don't see why I don't just wait until I can stay at home.
So yea. Obviously I have a lot to work through with dying theaters in general and AMC as a whole. But I love this theater. This was my theater. I still remember clapping on with a crowded and applauding theater here at the end of Dark Knight. I want this theater to succeed. I want every restaurant and store right by it to succeed. Seeing the futility of theaters though is made all the more difficult when I see they aren't even for people like me anymore. It's an...

He really went above and beyond and just had stellar customer care. Shout out to you pony-tail guy Snacks: The cheddar flavored popcorn tasted alright flavor-wise, but it was cold. And although the guy who served it had just taken it out of its bag (it comes pre-made), it felt stale. I may be splitting hairs here and ymmv but it just wasn't for me. The caramel popcorn (while it also comes pre-made) tasted hot and fresh, and the regular popcorn was tasty, too. Also got some chicken tenders which were hot and crispy, but some bites tasted really really gamey (but no big deal. I mean, no one's going to a movie theater for their chicken tenders.) Theater Room: I don't know if this was exclusive to our theater room (our movie was playing in room 9) but it was FREEZING. My honest guess is that it had to be close to 60 degrees in there. You could feel the temperature drop the moment you stepped through the doors... And it didn't get any better. I was shivering throughout the entire 3-hour movie. Me and my entire party were cold to the bone. Seating: Comfy seats? Forget about it. I had my knees up with my thighs pressed against my stomach to conserve body heat throughout the entire 3-hour showing. It was awful - the kind of bitter cold that distracts from the movie from how frequent you must shift and readjust yourself to try to disperse what little heat your body can produce. All three stars were taken off for that. The cold was truly that awful. The reason most people go to the movie theater is for the movie-viewing experience and/or the theater-going experience. The ice cold room effectively ruined both.
TLDR: Snacks are alright, staff are nice, but dress...
Read moreThere is just no excuse for what happened. Purchased tickets a month ago (thru Fandango) for a special event - American Saturday Night Live from the Grand Ole Opry as a Christmas gift for me and my friend. When I visited about 2 weeks earlier the tickets were printed out and given to me with the ones for the movie I was seeing that day. Brought tickets to theater 30 minutes before start time. Tickets were taken by Carmike employee and we were told movie was in Auditorium 9 as indicated on the tickets. We waited for them to clean the theater and then told we could go in. I verified that we were going into the correct Auditorium because the scrolling marquee said Spotlight. The employee said it was the right one and that the marquee just had not been updated. Waited 45 minutes after the 7:30 start time. Began to wonder why the previews were so long. Then sure enough Spotlight started to play. Went out to employee and she said I tried to tell you that it was in a different auditorium. I would like to know when she tried to tell me because I checked with her 2 times and she said we were in the correct theater. She said well you can get a refund. However, this is a SPECIAL EVENT. We missed it, it's gone. The manger was no more sympathetic. He said these things happen and there are new people working. Guess he is doing a great drop training them. He gave us a refund and 2 passes but it's not like we can come back and see another showing. This only played a few times and that was the last one. And not one...
