Michaels — Attraction in Washington

While I would never say I’ve had great customer service here I’ve also never felt like it was horrible..until today. I came to the store just as it opened, quietly grabbed my items and headed to pay. When I got to the register I had my hands full and one shopping basket with me along with my personal bag and coffee cup. I stood quietly as the cashier rang my items without speaking a word to me but while she continued to discuss how much she hated working Saturday, frustrated with management, etc to a coworker standing behind the counter with seemingly no at hand task but to listen and add follow up complaints. Once I paid for my order I grabbed my items and left the shopping basket I had been using on the counter since I had my hands full and the store was empty and as I walked away, the employee yelled “cart” at me and I turned around and said “excuse me?” And she said again “cart, come get your cart”. Literally barking orders at me after she just spent the last 3 minutes complaining about her job in front of me. Then as I walked back to get it I said “that was incredibly rude and my hands are full” and she said “well I didn’t get the cat out so you can put it back”. Absolutely despicable. I hope management sees this and handles it accordingly. I work in the area at a store and would be fired on the spot if I ever spoke to a customer like this. I also was running this errand before my own personal Saturday shift so I know what it’s like to work retail and no part of this situation is okay. I never even spoke a word besides saying hi to them before she barked commands at me because she was clearly annoyed that she had to work. Really...

Excellent store! It’s near the Friendship Heights Metro but if you drive, there is a parking garage above it. I’m into pencils, some ink, and beginning watercolor, and they are always stocked for the stuff I need. And seriously, get the Michaels app...great coupons (some up to 50% off or more and sometimes on the weekends they’ll throw in an extra 20% off your entire purchase including sale items)! Makes getting some of the pricier things easier to get! I mentioned that I’m beginning watercolor and one of the most daunting things is getting the paints, because they can be quite pricey for such small paint tubes. Solution: they have a PRICE MATCH guarantee: per Michaels website: “If you find a current lower price on an identical, in-stock item from any brick-and-mortar retailer, or any of the online retailers listed below, we will match that price, and then beat it by 10%. (Bring the ad, printout or photo with you to the register for validation. If you find a current lower price at the time of purchase or within 7 days of your purchase we will adjust the price. We reserve the right to verify a competitor’s advertised price and the availability of the item.) First of all, the employees were super nice and the cashier was very welcoming and open to answering questions. There was absolutely great customer service, no doubt about it. It may depend on the time you are there, but when I was there, it was great.

Second, I thought it would have been in a smaller store, judging by the look of the space on the outside, but it exceeded my expectations because it did have everything that I was looking for. It may be different with the opinion on size for others, but I have not been in many other Michaels before so I should maybe not be the one to judge.

Third, the store was filled to the brim with plenty of different arts and crafts supplies and bases for projects. There were aisles for nearly everything and in each aisles of category, it had a large variety. There was also a seasonal section, but I’m not sure if that is filled all year around.

But overall, I absolutely would recommend coming back to this place or going to this place for the first time! It of course depends on what you are looking for, but personally, I think that it has a very large variety of supplies needed for arts and...
