An absolute treat to be able to hear and learn about the American history shared by the hosts. I learned so much and felt super enriched by the research of this husband and wife team. Inside the train car itself is completely decorated with so much information and detailed facts that you truly feel Surrounded by knowledge. I was extremely proud as I learned about the enslaved African-Americans and their brilliance as they collaborated with each other and with abolitionists to seek freedom. This experience really made me think about how in present day we can think outside of the box to solve our own hardships I am so grateful that Connie invited me to share this experience. I learned so much in an absolutely gorgeous setting. Looking out on the water I felt a since of freedom personally. I highly recommend reaching out and coming to experience this hands-on history. So special and so...
Read moreWe have lived in the triangle area of NC for over 20 years and this was our first visit to Washington. We loved it and wish we hadn't waited so long to check it out! We ate at Backwater Jacks Tiki Bar and everything was super yummy, but then walked around and wanted to try 100 other restaurants! The sidewalks, landscaping, etc. We wished there were more shops to explore, but the ones we went into had great things to offer. The highlight was the Underground Railroad Museum in the restored train car. Lisa and Milton gave the best tour, with insights and historical details, and Lisa made every effort to involve my three teen kids in the discussion (which can be a tricky age to engage!). They were truly a delight and wealth of important...
Read moreY'all, don't skip this hidden gem or let the little caboose deceive you into thinking there's not much to see and learn. Leesa and Milton are absolutely adorable and are fountains of information. We spent an hour there listening to, learning, and interacting with Leesa. You can tell she is a retired teacher and loves to educate others. I graduated from a prestigious university and took many AFAM classes with excellent professors. I thought I knew most of what there was to know about the Underground Railroad. I was wrong. I learned so much from Leesa, like how slaves actually communicated with abolitionists and ship captains. It's amazing to hear stories on how clever and intelligent this complicated network of freedom was. Leesa kept us engaged the entire time. This was definitely one of the highlights of our day...
