I’d like to begin by stating that I live in Austin,TX (one of the best known food-centric and live music capital scenes in the country) and so I’m quite familiar with quality dining establishments and energetic atmospheres. All to say that If you’re looking for a true dining experience than The Mulberry House Brewery is THE destination. Equipped with delectably diverse menu options that will leave your palette satisfied and perhaps even a bit puzzled from the second-to-none, exquisite blend of ingredients; The Mulberry House has a remarkably talented head chef named Andrew whose culinary vision and craft is evident in some of my favorite dishes including the 32 oz Porterhouse, The Light Smoked Salmon, Mushroom Pasta and The Chicken Tagine! While the food is the source of my greatest enjoyment, it would be a disservice to not mention the arsenal of drinks behind the counter/bar. Theres an impressive selection of coffee and tea options at the front which, along with alcoholic beverages, can be paired with so many different food items inspiring flavors that will leave you craving more. Stand-alone the drinks are great too! However, definitely ask about the food/drink pairings..disappoint you it will not.
The servers are genuine and polite and frequent the table to ask about the meal, refilling drinks, clearing plates/utensils, as well as seeing if they can provide anything to increase dining comfortability. They look and operate as a team and each member can perform tasks while maintaining conversation with guests. Personally, I really enjoy a good joke with my servers :) A unique draw about the first floor are the prominent viewing windows in the center brick wall located behind the bar looking in on the brewery and in the main dining area surveying the kitchen. I absolutely love seeing the process from when an order is received to the time a plate is executed and eventually brought out to the table. It’s a classy and inviting touch that I’ve never seen anywhere else.
On Sunday, I attended Jazz brunch and felt like I was back in Austin with senses of taste, smell, hearing, and sight all completely immersed in a beautifully renovated and decorated interior space. The artists were local and created a wonderfully light atmosphere. Favorites off the brunch menu are the Kale Salad, Eggs Florentine, and Shakshuka. The waffle for dessert at the end was so savory, I wish I could have eaten it in circuit with either of the first two courses!
For sunset I made my way to the rooftop where I attended a masterfully instructed yoga class by Niki. By far one of the coolest experiences I’ve had at The Mulberry House. Although it was a brisk evening, taking in the panoramic views of the Pamlico River as we progressed through our session—coupled with the fading fall hues on the horizon—warmed the heart and calmed the mind.

Read moreWhat a wonderful experience... "Experience" being the key word here, because not only was the food amazing, but from the moment our party walked into the restaurant, we were made to feel special and attended to.
I did not have a drink, but the rest of my party all enjoyed their carefully crafted, beautiful cocktails. We started off with the Greek chicken wings, chicken yakitori, and pork belly skewers. All three were a hit at our table. The Greek chicken wings were so tender and juicy and slid right off the bone. I loved the seasoning of lemon, feta, and sea salt; they were mouthwatering. We were practically fighting over them! The skewers were equally enjoyable; they are cooked over a traditional yakitori grill and they had a wonderful flavor. The pork belly was so melt-in-your-mouth amazing! They also came with a lovely kimchi that is fermented in house. What a great way to start the meal off.
Then, the main course came. I ordered the mushroom pasta, and it was exquisite. They do not skimp on the mushrooms at all; you get a generous helping of two types of mushrooms atop a portion of bucatini that is fresh and tender from being made in house. The bits of argula microgreens dotted throughout the dish give it a fresh lightness that was so refreshing. I cleaned my plate!
For desert, we had both the chocolate mousse and the olive oil cake. The chocolate mousse was so rich and lovely; a bit of espresso lends complexity to the wonderfully textured mousse, and the peanut butter cookie crumbles on top are a pleasant addition. The olive oil cake was one of my favorite parts of the meal. The cake lends itself perfectly to absorbing so much of the perfect crème anglaise and dots of blueberry coulis. It was worth soaking up every bit!
Throughout the meal, the service from the waitstaff was impeccable. Our waitress was personable and attentive, and the other waitstaff who assisted were knowledgeable and eager to explain the nuances of each course. We were checked in on by the hostess, manager Daniel, and Chef Do throughout the meal to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We honestly had nothing but good things to say each time someone came to our table to check in. I cannot remember the last time I felt so attended to during a dining experience.
I highly, highly recommend the Mulberry House as one of the most elevated dining experiences available in Eastern North Carolina. It is worth coming to Washington from out of town to enjoy (luckily for me, I live close by, but would certainly make a drive to return if I had to!) The amount of thought and care that has been put into each dish by the experienced chefs cannot be overstated. My whole party had a lovely experience. We felt so welcomed and appreciated for choosing the Mulberry House. We will be coming back for my birthday dinner, and hopefully many more...
Read moreI don’t usually write reviews, but after the incredible brunch I had this weekend, I felt like I had to share. From the moment I stepped into the Mulberry I could tell this place was something special — cozy atmosphere, the perfect mix of lively and laid-back, and that welcoming smell of fresh coffee and warm bread in the air. But what really made the experience stand out was Kylie, my server.
Let me start with Kylie — she was fantastic. Friendly in the most genuine way, totally on top of everything without being overbearing, and she had that rare quality where she made you feel like a guest instead of just a customer. She greeted me with a warm smile, gave great menu suggestions, and checked in just enough to make sure everything was perfect without interrupting the flow of the meal. You can tell she really cares about her job and the people she’s serving. She even made sure my coffee cup was never empty — major points for that alone!
Now let’s talk about the food — specifically, the Eggs Florentine. Oh. My. God. I’ve had Eggs Florentine at plenty of brunch spots before, but this one blew them all out of the water. The eggs were poached perfectly — soft, silky yolks that oozed like sunshine when I cut into them. The spinach was sautéed just right, with a touch of garlic that gave it depth without overpowering the other flavors. The English muffin underneath was toasted to golden perfection — crisp on the edges but soft in the middle — and don’t even get me started on the hollandaise sauce. It was rich, buttery, and velvety smooth, with just the right hint of lemon to brighten everything up. You could taste the quality in every bite — this was clearly made fresh and with care.
Everything was plated beautifully, and the portion size was generous without being overwhelming. It came with a side of crispy breakfast potatoes that were seasoned perfectly — golden brown on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I may or may not have cleaned my plate entirely (okay, I definitely did).
Kylie made the whole meal even more enjoyable. She checked in shortly after the food arrived just to make sure everything was to my liking (it totally was), and we even had a nice little chat about brunch recommendations in the area. She gave off great energy and added that personal touch that makes a good meal into a...
