Update: 6/22/19. Produce looks better. Perhaps getting good produce in the winter time is challenging. For the most part, Stop & Shop tends to have lower prices overall than their local competitors, especially when you use their card. I was also able to save the $0.40 per gallon of gas using their card at local participating gas stations. Reward points. Not bad. In the store closest to me, West Caldwell, NJ, the biggest issue of late has been finding expired items on their shelves. They don't do a great job of pulling them off when they restock the shelves. Tartar sauce above the frozen fish refrigerators was expired for months. Same with the Gorgonzola cheese spread in their cheese display. Really look close at the expiration dates before you buy. One nicety is the optional price gun you can use as you walk through the store. Scan as you shop and you don't need to scan again at the checkout, just pay. Overall, upgraded from 3 to 4 stars.
Original posting: Regular produce looks terrible. Every bag of apples had at least one that was so badly bruised that it was oozing on the rest. Bagged salad was wilting, had to pick though the heads of lettuce to find one that was decent. Bananas were ok. Organic produce looks better, albeit more expensive. Rest of the store was pretty good, including the meat. Some items are more expensive than ShopRite, but there are some deals. No crowds like at ShopRite or Wegmans. Good for the shopper, bad...
Read moreThe only positive to this store is their inventory. This is the most convenient place for Boars Head deli, as long as you don’t mind getting a disheveled pile of meat from the rudest deli staff I’ve ever met. My daughter loves “Marty” but the past five or six times the robot has been plugged in. The parking lot has EIGHT spots for store pickup yet they’re always vacant, but won’t offer a spot or two for pregnant women, large families, or 15 minute pick up for those occasions where you forgot to grab eggs. There’s no cart section outside so you’ll have to physically go into the store to put it back. But again, no parking spots for large families so there’s carts everywhere because children are more of a priority than shopping carts. The staff- mostly rude. The only help I’ve ever received was from the self checkout woman- she really is the only person that seems happy to be there. Will I return? Yes. I have to because of what they carry. Do I wish they were a little more…accommodating? Yes. You pay a premium price for most of their items and one would expect to get a premium experience and...
Read moreI only stop here when I'm in the area, about 3-4 times a month. I'll never stop here again after the disgraceful, unpleasant encounter with the cashier. Item rung up regular price, I took a photo of the tag because I texted it to a person who might of been interested in it. She told me she only rings up and apparently the price has nothing to do with her. Didn't want to know anything about the tags, had the nerve to tell me there is nobody there to check price. If the store opens at 7am, I'm most certain that she didn't open it. That there had to be a supervisor there AND HE WAS INSIDE THE OFFICE. He checked and said the tags were wrong, he was professional and polite. He let me purchase the item. The tag should of been removed 9 days ago (today is 16th)....She never said a word afterwards. Handed me the receipt and greeted the next customer. I don't keep company with people who lie to a customer and where the customer isn't in the best interest. 5 stars only for the gentleman and zero for her. If your that miserable at 7am then that job certainly...
