Was happy to see a 8pm mass on a Sunday so my family and I could attend while visiting Chicago. I donāt think Iāve ever been to a more disappointing church. We came into the church and noticed that a statue of Saint Patrick was front and center, above the crucifix. Jesus is always supposed to be the highest and saints are always below. Then we sat down to spend time in prayer and someone from the church came in front of us, turned to us, back to the alter and started talking to us non stop, even after he said he knows we are in mass at a prayerful time. We did not ask for history on the church. Nor do we care how many rich patrons you have. We came for mass. For our Lord. Then mass started. And it all went down hill. Except the homily was beautiful. I question the authenticity of the prayers prayed - verrrrrry political. But the most heartbreaking moments were when no one but a few people kneeled during the Eucharist prayers. What a complete disregard for the sanctity of the moment. The priest was off to the side to give communion. There was zero reverence. At the end of communion the body and blood were basically cast away at the end. To some random side table. I was shocked. And the clapping at the end. Wow. So. Maybe instead of the little āall are welcomeā signs and the un wanted āwelcome committeeā this church and her priests can maybe take a good look at if their masses are valid and being performed and celebrated correctly. This was shocking....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeautiful Roman Catholic Church with beautiful Celtic art in a convenient location. This structure is very unique, as it was built by Irish immigrants to Chicago, and survived the Great Chicago Fire. It is worth visiting, sadly I strongly encourage you to not attend Mass here!
This is far from a traditional Roman Catholic Church though. During the consecration of the Eucharist, the presiding priest asked everyone to stand and not to show reverence by kneeling. This priest continuously politicizes his homilies by pushing left-wing agenda politics, there is no room for any politics at Mass!!!
The priest further asked the congregation to pray for the three victims of the Pennsylvania Trump Rally, there were four victims, he intentionally excluded President Trump's name. While greeting congregants he was asked about this and joked about it during his leftist, political homily, stating, "Most of you know the way my politics lean, maybe I made a conscious decision to omit President Donald Trump's name. I "guess" we should pray for everyone as Christians."
I found the conduct of the priest reprehensible and it caused a huge scene after the Mass outside that was really embarrassing and displayed extremely poor conduct by this priest. I would strongly advise avoiding any financial support of Old St Pats Church and to attend a traditional...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis church is like a Pharisee: splendid to see in it's finery, but spiritually dead. This is not so much a Catholic Church as it is a liberal political gathering hole under the veneer of Catholicism for people who like rituals in pretty places or for people who simply attend church as some sort of spiritual insurance policy in case God is real after all. While all people are welcome at all Catholic Churches as we are all sinners, sinful acts should not be welcomed or condoned, whether or not the sinner identifies with the sin or as the sin - you can have the desire to do the thing, but cannot be condoned in doing the thing. I have heard from parishioners that the church gives the Eucharist to anyone, whether or not they're even Catholic, and it does not endorse that the Eucharist is the true Body and Blood of Christ. There are much better churches not far away for real ones who truly believe and are...
