I don’t write many reviews.. However, after taking a look at the low rating on the reviews, and then, consequently reading the reviews, I was so disappointed. Majority of the low reviews have to do with the high cost of someone’s veterinary care… And I have a few comments I would like to make:
If you have a pet, make sure you can afford to take care of it. It is not the veterinary hospital or any veterinarians problem that you took in a pet that you cannot afford. Animals, like humans have emergencies and those emergencies are very expensive. Ensure you are planning for that or get insurance. I was a college student and had a pet that I could not afford… That is my fault/problem not theirs. To say that the veterinarians are in it for the money is a slap in the face to the entire profession. They have high debt to income ratio due to veterinary school yet their salaries are not as high as you would expect… They cannot care for every animal that walks through their doors for free. Otherwise they would make no money and that hospital would close. Veterinary medicine utilizes the same materials, Instruments, etc as human medicine. And just like human medicine, costs have gone up… Therefore, veterinary medicine will go up as well. This last point that I am making is incredibly sad to me and why I am so passionate about leaving this review… Veterinarians have one of the highest rates of suicide over any profession. And it’s not because they have to euthanize animals, that is actually one of the lowest Contributors to the suicide rate. It’s bc of the low income to stress ratio and the people that belittle and yell at them saying they are greedy horrible human beings that only care about money. They are not in it for the money, if they were they know human medicine is the way to go… but they love animals and helping your pets.
So before you go off on a veterinarian or veterinary clinic/hospital because you cannot afford the cost of taking care of your pet.. think about everything I said above.
I’m a Purdue Alumni who majored in animal sciences, I didn’t go the vet route due to the salary to debt/stress ratio. NOT because I didn’t want to help animals… I’ve been a client there for many years and out of the 5 ER visits I’ve been to, 4/5 have been perfect. Just like a human hospital, they have a lot of patients. Expect the same wait time here. But know you are getting the best care possible with every specialist you could need...
Read moreVery upset with this place! My husband and I brought our 3 month old German Shepherd puppy here to get an X-ray of one of her legs because she was limping. Turned out that she had fractured her leg from jumping off the back of the couch. They told us that she would need surgery within the next day or two and that it would cost $2,500! With that being said, our immediately thought was, we don’t have that kind of money. So, I sold my car today. I sold my car to make sure that we had the money to get the surgery that she needed. It took 3 days to get the money together, just 3 days. My husband brought her in to see about getting the surgery there since I sold my car. Now they are saying the surgery may not be needed since it is ‘starting to heal’. They are also quoting us on twice the cost as we were originally given! It’s a little odd to me that now that we have the money, they aren’t going to get her the surgery that she needs. She has an appointment there for next week, 5 days from now, to see how it has ‘healed’. For being a ‘teaching hospital’, this place sure charges more than they should! When we brought her in 3 days ago, it cost us $387 to get an X-ray of her leg. My dogs mean the world to me and I would do anything for them, seeing how I sold my car to get the money for the surgery, that they may...
Read moreI have been here 3 times. Two out of those three times I ended up wasting my whole day here waiting for "different specialists" to check our dog. The first of these two visits ended up totaling 7 hours in the waiting room ( I am not exaggerating). We were told this was due to being late and all of the other specialists having their appointments booked. Understandable; however, we ended up getting a diagnosis and were told to come back in three weeks to drop off our dog for surgery. Well it's week three and here I am in the waiting room just about to go on hour 5. We get here and after initial inspection they say that he may not need the surgery and he needs to be looked at by all the specialists to confirm. Funny because this is what the last 7 hour appointment was for and it ended in us getting topical ointment to treat our dog's skin rash in prep for the surgery. This is the problem when you see a different doctor every visit.. I find this to be a huge mistake if your doctor determines you definitely need surgery and then changes their mind next visit. This would not be so bad if we lived down the street but we are traveling 160 miles to get here. The only good thing I can say about this place is that they are all very nice and we'll mannered people but they need to get their scheduling and...
