Europe, Central America, and the US, I can honestly say this is my favorite coffee shop in the world. You walk in and feel like you're home. I've noticed many people here say the coffee is awful or tastes like mud. I think this is because many people haven't experienced the joy that is ultra-fresh, french pressed coffee before. The rich, earthy flavors and oils that lends to the coffee are something to experience (and admittedly something to get used to if you haven't had much french press before). Just a hint if you're new to french press: don't drink the last sip in the cup, and yes that stuff (silt) in the bottom of the cup is normal. It means it's good!
At Greyhouse they hand press each batch of coffee. Beans are never kept past expiration date and the coffee is constantly being made fresh so you're never going to get a cup that's been sitting around all day in a carafe.
The coffee comes fresh roasted from fair trade or direct trade with suppliers. That's great because you know the farmers are getting a decent wage for their product. In many cases, the staff have visited and personally know the farmers from whom they get their coffee. As to the cost, like many other things in life, you get what you pay for. Anytime I'm back at Purdue, Greyhouse is an...
Read moreI am a freelancer and Greyhouse is my go-to “office” to get work done. I come probably at least 2 times a week, I even drive 15 minutes from the south side of Lafayette to go there. I work best in the evenings and I appreciate that Greyhouse is open later than most coffee shops in town. It’s a great work environment with choices of lounge chairs or tables to work at and always a free outlet close by. Depending on the time of day, it can be hard to find a spot to sit if you aren’t just going there alone. But there isn’t another coffee shop more deserving of such good business, so I can’t be mad about the crowds. I always get the iced crème brûlée latte and it never disappoints. The staff is friendly and the shop itself is always clean. I like the diverse crowd of people that comes in. By no means does Greyhouse staff push religion onto their costumers, as I know it’s owned or ran by the people of Campus House Church. But one of my favorite parts of coming is hearing bits of conversations about Jesus through customers who I assume attend the church. I feel like the people of Greyhouse do a great job of being a light without forcing it into the costumers and students who are there just to study. I would...
Read moreGreyhouse is normally my go to, but not anymore after today.
Before I even ordered, I asked the cashier if it was okay to eat my non-greyhouse bagel in store, to which he replied “Yea, you should be fine”(word-for-word). Later, as I am half way through my bagel and drinking my $10 iced latte, I was informed by a different employee that I wasn’t allowed to do so and was asked to sit outside/leave. I explained to her what the cashier told me, and she said that he probably wasn’t aware of the policy. She was really sweet about it, but the whole situation left me feeling embarrassed especially since I literally asked if it was okay and was told yes. I also struggle with anxiety, so watching people stare at me as I was being talked to and as I had to pack up to leave was absolutely awful.
Idk what else to say besides educate your employees better on the policies. And just to clarify, the employees were very nice; however, this situation should have never happened in the first place.
Edit: I was just informed that many people eat outside food at greyhouse and were never asked to leave. I was trying to be polite, but now I am very angry about this...
