I'm editing my review from the summer. (See below for where I started)
I don't know WHAT happened since the summer, but we don't get food from this place much because it's so close to campus and hard to get to. We ordered tonight and the General Tso's chicken has... no actual chicken in it (see pics). Fried starch is on the left and the meagre pieces of chicken are on the right. There's less than an ounce of chicken in the whole thing. We've never see quality drop off so fast before.
Worth no stars. None.
There's a new Chinese food emperor in town. We've lived here a decade or so and we've tried so many places. En Lai, Lin's Wok, China King, Happy China, Schetchean Garden, Sichuan House, etc. They are all varying degrees of okay (except Happy China, they're an automatic stomach ache for me) with issues like too much sauce, stingy portions of meat, gross or sad looking vegetables, and so forth.
Worries no more. First, the servings at Red Wok are good. They aren't huge, one person could probably eat an entire General Tso's Chicken or eat half and put the rest away. The prices for what you get are definitely fair. The crab rangoon is smaller, but the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The chicken pieces were all large and similar size and crispy. Delightful after En Lai and China King's recently decreasing amount of protein in every dish. The last time we got China King, the chicken pieces were 80% fried starch with the odd bit of chicken mixed in. Not the case here. Red Wok is superior in every tenant except location being so close to campus that it can be hard to find parking.
To reiterate, excellent food. Good portion size and price. Wait was pretty quick, but they also weren't crazy busy when we...
Read moreTERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I ordered General Tso's Chicken.. a favorite of ours that we have ordered COUNTLESS times from Rice Cafe. We placed the order and received our food within a reasonable time, around 1 am. They must have given us old food because the chicken was mushy instead of crispy and the sauce wasn't as flavorful as it usually is. I called the next day and they said it was too late. They asked why I called "so late", when it was less than 24 hours later. I told them I didn't call the night before because it was around 1 AM and didn't feel like dealing with it then. The manly-sounding girl that works there was EXTREMELY rude and so was the "manager" boy who I was FINALLY put on the phone with after arguing with the girl. I didn't even want a full refund... I just wanted a partial refund as a loyal customer. Now they have lost ALL of my business, which was just a bad business move on their part. I even told them that they're going to lose all of my business and they just said "okay". I will tell everyone NOT to go there. The food wasn't great, it was just drunk food. Now I support Szechuan Garden in West Lafayette! The food is much more authentic and a little pricey for college students, but at least it's friendly service! (Last night they let me place an order after they closed, made the food all fresh while I was there, AND gave me half off because I didn't have enough money. Now THAT's customer service!!!!!) :) **Rice Cafe also does not accept phone calls from blocked numbers, as I just called to tell them to read their Google reviews...
Read moreOk.. so what I ordered here was good. The reason why I’m giving a one star review is because of the customer service. The lady who first answered the phone, (the one who took my order) was very rude. She rushed me through my order by continuously asking me “is that all?” Then when I said never mind to an item she huffed and puffed and the proceeded to ask if I wanted her to take that item off my order. I again said yes. She huffed and very rudely said ok and that she would take the item off. She hung up the phone. When my order finally did arrive, they forgot my lemonade. I called back and a guy answer the phone after an approximately 3-4 min wait. I told him that I ordered a lemonade and that I didn’t receive it with my order. He said that I didn’t order a lemonade. I know for a fact that I did because when the lady who took my order went through the drink options I told her that I would like a lemonade. I then began to tell him that maybe if the lady who took my order wasn’t so rude and didn’t rush through that she would have put my lemonade on my order and that I don’t appreciate her being rude. (I think they just didn’t want to bring me my lemonade) you don’t receive a receipt with all your items on it. Anyways, in response to what I said, the guy told me that HE DOESN’T APPRECIATE ME CALLING HER RUDE. I am the customer. She shouldnt be rude. I ended up just hanging up on him. So moral of this story is that there customer...
