St. John Neumann Catholic Church — Attraction in West Lake Hills

So… I lived in bougie Dallas, TX at one point in my life, and I understand & appreciate being part of a nice / high end / upper class congregation… I get it, Westlake warrants this kind of look & feel, but I was taken back at seeing someone reference the cost of the decorative dome inside the church— so publicly shared on Google reviews — to whoever decided to share (or rather flaunt) that with a recent newcomer- come on! Not only should that stuff be kept private but it really is of poor taste. Don’t get me wrong, it’s gorgeous and it’s a good church but…

… first thing I thought was the irony that they spent so much $$ on this spectacular dome, and yet, now people cannot clearly hear the sermon or singing during mass because now it drastically impacts the acoustics … and then I thought, no joke, can’t you just imagine Jesus reading that, thinking, “are you serious, this is what I’m about - a $4M dome?”

Most of all, I thought, if I’m the head of this parish, I’d remove this review because it’s no one’s business to know how much we paid for this dome… and what if it turns people off from coming to our parish because it comes off as elitist.

Jesus is giving some serious side eye right now & shaking His head… come on...

One of the prettiest churches around Austin. Well worth stopping by on a Sunday morning if you're in the area. The dome is obviously spectacular. It's actually not painted but a mosaic and someone told us after mass that they spent $4MM+ on it. The congregation seemed very well off too (there was a Chopard watch in my vicinity) which explains how a church can afford a dome like that, but they also seemed quite pleasant. A friendly patron noticed my girlfriend and I were new and gave us a tour after mass. My girlfriend did mention that the Preist was a bit hard to hear but I never noticed because I was staring at the dome...

We have been part of this church for many years with Father Bud. My major complaint is the homily is impossible to understand! I guess a lot of it is the sound system and certain priest are totally impossible to understand due to accents not their fault but when you see everyone looking around at each other with the same expression you know no one else can understand either . I want to get a message ! You should look into a solution, I’ve heard this from many people!! I want this to be my church. but I also want to...
