If I could give this florist zero stars I would. On Thurs Sept 12 I ordered an expensive (total cost in excess of $150) floral arrangement to be sent to a funeral home for the viewing of the husband of a good friend, as neither my husband nor I could attend ourselves. I asked the woman who took my phone order to please send me a photo of the finished arrangement, as I wouldn't be there to see it in person. She promised she would & claimed she even made a note for the floral arranger. Later that day I received a confirmation of delivery & that "the driver reported no issues". I called the funeral home to make sure the flowers had arrived in time for the viewing. They checked everywhere but found no flowers! I called the rep at Penny's back & told her, & after checking she said that she'd called the funeral home & they had found the flowers on their front porch. I also asked why I didn't receive a photo as promised? She checked again & said the arranger had emailed me a photo, but I checked my email acct & even my spam folder - no email came that day or afterwards! Next I called the funeral home back & was told that the flowers were just left on their porch - the delivery person hadn't even bothered to ring the bell so no one knew they were there. I was livid & called back to Penny's by Plaza but was unable to speak with the same rep. 1st time I called back I was disconnected by whoever answered. Subsequent calls were like a comedy of errors - I kept getting transferred from one of their stores to the other, & never reached the rep who took the order & knew the history. After 45 minutes of this I gave up.
On Yelp, where I also reviewed this florist, the owner responded by saying that the driver rang the bell but no one answered, so he left the flowers on the front porch. This is NOT what happened. This was a funeral home - they ALWAYS answer a doorbell because they're always expecting flower deliveries for their scheduled viewings. The woman from the funeral home texted me that no one rang the bell but they later found the flowers just left on the porch, where they weren't expecting them to be. The florist owner offered to have flowers sent to the deceased family's home the following week but it was after the fact of the intended occasion, where they would have represented us at the viewing we couldn't attended. I chose to decline the offer, because it did not address the fact that drivers should NEVER just leave flowers for an important event such as a funeral. Nor did he address the difficulty I experienced trying to get through to someone at the florist shop itself, where I ended up getting no satisfaction for my efforts, or that the woman who promised me a photo had lied, as I received no photo. With so many issues involved in that one order, why take a chance on another order being fouled up?
I cannot recommend this florist to anyone. No florist delivery driver should just leave a floral arrangement on a front porch of a funeral home, or anywhere else for that matter, without ringing the doorbell or else "calling them" to advise of the delivery. Also, the woman I spoke to lied to me that a photo of the flowers would be taken & that it was emailed when it clearly wasn't. Ordering flowers nowadays is extremely expensive. If you need an arrangement to be sent to someone, spend your hard-earned money on a different florist who will treat you & your purchase with "respect" & also not lie to you. Given my experience plus the numerous other 1 & 2 star reviews both here & on Yelp, I advise you to Avoid, AVOID, A-V-O-I-D...
Read more10/16/2024 - I'm back with another Penny's by Plaza Flowers review! I ordered a centerpiece for the holidays. The centerpiece was gorgeous! (See 3rd photo below). The ordering process is seamless (Special thank you to Chris, Ben, Monica and Terry) for their wonderful service.) If you can believe it, the centerpiece is even more gorgeous in person. I cannot recommend Penny's enough. They deliver (no pun intended) across the board with their customer service, gorgeous arrangements and timely deliveries. Thank you! 5/10/2024 - I'm starting to lose count of how many times I've ordered from Penny's by Plaza Flowers (holiday centerpieces, Valentine's Day, birthdays etc) and there's a reason why I keep choosing this florist. Their floral arrangements are absolutely gorgeous! The flowers are fresh and the designs are unique and beautiful. They delivered a gorgeous floral arrangement to my mom for Mother's Day and she loved it! Delivery was prompt!
What sets Penny's by Plaza Flowers apart from many other florists is that they are a family-owned business and the service you receive is personal and top notch. Special thank you to Chris the owner and Nicole, who were extremely helpful and professional during my last order. I highly recommend them! Thank you again for the stunning floral arrangement!
2/12/2024 - This is now the third time I ordered flowers from Penny's by Plaza Flowers. Their staff is such a pleasure to deal with. Special thank you today to Monica, who was so helpful and accommodating with my order. I highly recommend this florist. They have become my "go to" florist in Philly and I look forward to doing business with them in the future!
10/2023 - This is the first time I've ordered from Penny's by Plaza Flowers but it definitely won't be the last! Special thank you to Barry and Andrew who were both a pleasure to deal with. The centerpiece I ordered was GORGEOUS! Delivery was timely and the ordering process was so easy and efficient....
Read moreI have lived in this area since 1982, and ever since Plaza Flowers became more about the candy, key chains and cards than about the actual FLOWERS, the whole shopping and Customer Service experience there has gone downhill.
In the past several years, I have gone instead to MOLES, and their owner and staff always seem to want to go the extra mile. But every so often I begrudgingly have had to return to Plaza, and 9 out of 10 times I have been disappointed in one way or another.
The staff seems to (for the most part) always be different, and none of them ever seem to know what's going on. When you ORDER something, no one (including the managers) seem to understand you will be disappointed if when you go to pick up that order it is NOT what you specified. Moreover, you may be told (in so many words) to stop complaining (as I was told during my last visit). (Oh! And don't bother telling me I should have spoken to a Manager at that point, because that WAS the Manager. OR maybe even "Penny," herself!)
I could honestly go on and on, but they are not worth the time. They do not understand what Customer Service really means, and just always seem to be winging it. I am never going back there and seriously regret the last time I did.
ESPECIALLY if you are ever ordering for a funeral or wedding, or a special occasion during which being "disappointed" especially on a grand scale would be especially devastating, I STRONGLY suggest you take your...
