I am extremely disappointed in myself for decided to purchase two very expensive washer/dryer sets from Wickford Appliance costing over $4,000 in total. I had previously purchased appliances from big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot, but thought it would be better to support a smaller, locally-owned company because I thought I would receive better service and support than what I had experienced with big-box retailers. It turns out the exact opposite is true.

The first red flag began with the delivery, when I was informed by the delivery guys that it was company policy not to remove or dispose of the packaging materials—including the huge cardboard box and mountains of Styrofoam the appliances arrived in. The big box retailers always removed the packing materials, and for a purchase of this size, I found this lack of basic service astonishing. I called to say this was not acceptable and they did end up taking the packaging.

I purchased 5 year extended warranties for both machines, as I have always done with every purchase of an appliance in the past. I have never had any issues with Home Depot or Lowe's honoring these warranties. Now, after a service call more than a year after one of the purchases, Wickford Appliance has refused to honor the warranties they sold me, citing a fine-print clause that excludes “commercial use.” I run an Airbnb/bed and breakfast at my property, just like hundreds, if not thousands of homeowners in the local area do. This use is no more intensive than it would be for a family with four kids. So over a year after I purchased the first machine, Wickford Appliance revoked the 5-year extended warranty coverage leaving me with no protection on two very expensive appliances.

If I had purchased the same machines from Lowes or Home Depot, I have been protected. The have always honored their extended warranties in the past.

We were assisted immediately upon entering the store. Emily showed us to the tower or combo washer/dryers. She also was very knowledgeable about all 3 products we were interested in. She did not rush us at all! She even gave us some facts I didn’t know about and hadn’t read about. My husband and I had pretty much decided on the GE tower washer/dryer and then sat at her desk. I had several questions and she needed some additional information. She walked us through what we needed, answered my questions, saw there was only 1 left in the warehouse and quickly placed the order so we could be sure to get it!
