I had the worst nail experience of my life at Gen Nails and don't encourage anyone to receive services there.
I arrived with acrylics and asked the owner if it was safe to remove them and add gel polish to my natural nails on the same day. She said of course, and preceded to remove them. I asked to keep my natural nail length and have a rounded shape. When I sat with the tech who applied my gel she immediately filed down my nails in a short square shape and did not understand me when I tried to explain to her that was not what I wanted. When she applied the gel it was extremely thick and uneven. She applied 3 coats to one hand and 2 on the other. I tried to explain to her again and she still could not comprehend what I was saying to her. The "manicure" didn't include a hand massage or lotion and I was charged $45 for my experience. When I questioned the owner about my total when their price sheet shows a gel manicure at $25 she explained that I paid $20 for the manicure & $25 for the polish application. I'm not familiar with a salon charging separately for these services, especially when I don't believe I received a manicure. I truly believe the owner saw that I was frustrated & dissatisfied with the service and assumed I would not be returning and up- charged me intentionally.
I didn't want to be confrontational or cause a scene so I chose to unhappily pay the bill, and left vowing to never return. As I got a better look and feel for my nails my anger intensified. There were clearly bubbles and uneven spots on nearly every nail and although there were 3 coats on one hand, my nails were extremely fragile and bending. The edges of my nails were beginning to peel that same day because the polish was too thick. At that point I concluded, it was not a fair situation for Gen salon to have even received payment for such a unsatisfactory job. And didn't think it was the right decision to apply gel polish to nails that were just covered with acrylics. I think the owner said it would be fine because she didn't want to lose my business.
I went back to the salon in the morning and spoke with the owner about my nails, to request a refund. She took a quick glance at my nails and continued working on the client she was with. She didn't attempt to hear me, or apologize for my experience.. Nothing. She barely made eye contact and attempted to ignore my presence entirely. She exclaimed that the salon doesn't offer refunds under any circumstances and the only thing she would do is repaint them. I'm sorry, but after the horrible experience with this salon, I didn't trust them to work on my nails again, and I wasn't going to spend one more moment there.
The unsatisfactory nail experience is something that could have happened anywhere. What disgusted me the most was the lack of understanding or customer service directly from the owner. This is your business and an extension of you. I would expect you to care about the opinions of your clients. The impression that was left on me is that they are completely focused on how much money they could take from me in the moment, as opposed to my repeat business.
I rarely ever write bad reviews. I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt when a negative experience occurs. But I was so appalled with the entire process at Gen, I felt compelled to...
Read moreI went here for the first time this past Friday despite all the reviews. I just moved back to Westerville and figured I should find someone close to home. First impression when I walked in the receptionist was nice and everything looked clean. I got a gel manicure and I was so excited because they had so many colors to choose from. The nail tech that was going to be servicing me even helped me narrow down a color. So she removed my gel and went to go start another clients pedicure. A man starts to do my manicure and I was a little hesitant because with years of getting my nails done I've always found them to be a little more rough. Anyways my thumb started bleeding and I didn't complain because things happen. Welp another finger started bleeding, he was cutting my cuticles too low. He did apply some blue liquid I assumed that would help with the bleeding. He was really nice but wasn't really personable. So toward the end of my gel manicure I could tell something wasn't right because him and another tech started talking in their native language and she kept looking over at my nails. I let him finish and when I went up to pay after my services I paid and I stood there for a minute deciding if I should tell them I didn't like my nails, it looked sloppy, gel was dried over my skin and you could tell I needed another coat of gel (you could see through the color.) So I told the receptionist I was really happy with the look of it and my nails were still bleeding. She told another tech was my issue was and she said "we can fix it but that'll be an additional charge if you don't like the color, you should've told us you didn't like the color." I told her my issue wasn''t with the color it just looked sloppy and I was bleeding. She did offer to apply another coat to see if that would help. And it was busy I could tell it was homecoming weekend because a lot of girls were in their prepping for it. So I let her fix it she applied another coat, more blue liquid and today my fingers are just so sore. I've also been applying lots of alcohol in fear that I'll get an infection. I wanted to try a new place in Westerville but I know I won't be...
Read moreHad a very bad experience here today! I called two days ahead to schedule a Motherâs Day pedicure for my mom, sister, and I. We arrived on time for our appointment, they sat us at the chairs for the pedicures and, and we waited. They only had one staff member available to start my gel pedicure, so he started on me. My mom sat for 30min before a second person (who seemed to have been called from another location as he had no idea where any of the supplies where at and had to be showed around by the one manicurist who was working on me). Then my sister proceeded to sit for AN HOUR AND 15min with no one coming to start her pedicure. There was only one other customer in the whole place so it was not because they were overly busy. Finally my sister called them out and said she was no longer interested in a pedicure and would be leaving since the service was so awful. They made some excuses about their staff members being out of town this weekend, so why the hell did you accept the appointment and/or not call us and let us know they did not have the staff to do the service? We told them this was unacceptable and ruined the experience for all 3 of us (3 moms trying to relax for Motherâs Day). They offered to give us 15% off ON OUR NEXT VISIT đ LOL there will be no next visit. My sister left steaming mad and I left crying because I felt so bad for having planned a crappy Motherâs Day outing. I wonât even get into the quality of my haphazard pedicure that was rendered during this debacle. It was one of the worst Iâve had. AWFUL EXPERIENCE ALL AROUND DO...
