TL;DR: I hesitate to write this review, but as a passionate and honest resident of Westerville for almost 20 years, I feel it's necessary.
I have visited this strip regularly—most days for several years. Recently, due to health challenges and a spiritual journey, I’ve found solace and grace in the goodness present in this area. However, my last visits to the stores have left me disappointed. Each time, I aimed to be kind to the workers and to browse quietly for video games or perhaps find a knickknack or two. Unfortunately, my experiences were overshadowed by rudeness that made me feel unexpectedly angry, a feeling I haven’t experienced in a long time.
One staff member seemed upset with me for proactively seeking to sell books and items. Perhaps she thought I was homeless or simply didn't like me—I'm not sure. I'm just a humble man who wants to browse for video games; it's not her place to monitor me as if I’m causing a disruption. I was polite and friendly, yet I felt like I was being treated like a child in trouble.
Instead of fostering a welcoming environment, this employee brought over the manager to address what she perceived as my disruptive behavior, which I found utterly disrespectful. I don't know this woman; I only wanted to browse quietly. My two-star rating comes from my respect for the good employees, but I won't be returning, nor will I sell or donate anything to a place that seems ungrateful for my time.
It's disheartening to think that donated items often end up discarded or sold for a fraction of their value. I regret donating things that could have been enjoyed, especially a meaningful board game I once played with my mom, now overpriced and collecting dust.
In the end, I decided to donate the money I received from my sale, as I felt it was treated with such disregard. I believe that employees in customer service should treat patrons like family, not strangers. It's disappointing to feel unwelcome in a place I once held in...
Read moreThe people at Half Price Books are very helpful, always ready to assist you in finding what you need. They are knowledgeable about their inventory and can offer great recommendations based on your interests. The atmosphere is welcoming, making it easy to browse through the aisles without feeling rushed. Whether you're looking for a specific title or just exploring, their friendly staff is there to ensure you have a positive experience. However, their good selection of puzzles, although impressive, are sadly a little overpriced. While the quality and variety are commendable, some customers might find it hard to justify the cost compared to other retailers. It would be great if they could offer more competitive pricing or occasional discounts, as this would enhance the overall shopping experience. Despite the pricing, the unique finds and helpful staff still make it a worthwhile visit for puzzle enthusiasts! Overall, it's a fantastic place for book and...
Read moreMy experience at the Westervilke Half Price bookstore was terrible. The clerk who checked me out had treated three other customers so friendly saying hi to them, how are you,, is that everything and told them how much they owed, said have a nice day when they were done which is awesome. But when I checked out he treated me as if I was invisible. He didn’t greet me , he wouldn’t answer back to me when I asked him a ? , he wouldn’t talk or answer me. I asked him why he didn’t greet me and talk with me like everyone else. He turned & walked away yelling for the Mgr. Mgr said there wasn’t anything he would do because the teller didn’t do anything wrong. Worst manager ever-worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in my life. Terrible management and the most unprofessional manager and teller. I will take my business to the other half price bookstore on Bethel- they are friendly professionals who treat their customers well and the manager...
