The staff are super nice and helpful, when life allows you the prime time needed to actually visit. Does have printing, and perfunctory scanning setup.
Hours are limited. "Late" hours, when the facility is open until 8PM are clustered together Monday through Friday when the need, at least for me, is least acute. Never open on religious or government holidays.
Wifi access even immediately outside is iffy at best. No outlets. Patio closed off with multiple threatening signs. If you think you can migrate outside to finish your work on a fair-weather day, think again.
In the past, it was difficult to concentrate due to a large playground outside. Recent structural upgrades to the library did nothing to abate the substantial influx of noise pollution.
Unfortunately, the playground outside is being rebuilt with an increased footprint. As if that were not bad enough, I have noted the installation of interactive musical instruments as part of the playground.
These rugged, permanent instruments are great fun. I occasionally indulge myself at other locations. However, there inclusion at the library playground (itself an oxymoron that shouldn't exist) demonstrates contempt for the library any of its patrons who require quiet concentration.
With an extensive playground already established just a few hundred feet away, I can't understand the continued need to jam one in - complete with new musical features - mere feet from the library. The existing nearby playground is quite impressive. Its location on the residential side of Irving Street, provides safer and more immediate access to neighborhood children.
Perhaps they didn't want to add musical features to that playground so as not to disturb the adjacent school. Maybe one day library patrons will be granted a similar level of respect and consideration. Until then, we can look forward to the return of a library greatly handicapped by (even more) extreme noise pollution!
Like most Colorado institutions, this library supports criminal activity against their patrons. This comes about in the form of their refusal to grant access to outside surveillance video. These policies embolden criminals and they artificially inflate the need for, and perceived value of, law enforcement. It's no coincidence I've lost so many bicycles in the area and why theft is so...
Read moreStephanie at the Irving Street Library is truly the best! She is an incredible resource and an outstanding librarian. My fiancé works from home and had an issue with her laptop. Stephanie helped her since the moment she got there. Today the library was very busy, yet she treated every single person, with the same warmth, patience, and professionalism. No matter who walked up, she gave excellent customer service and took the time to really listen and help.
Her kindness, graciousness, and strong work ethic shone through even in the busiest moments. She went above and beyond to make sure everyone felt supported. If more people in the world carried themselves the way Stephanie does, it would absolutely be a better place. She deserves recognition and appreciation for the amazing work she does every...
Read moreI agree with some of the comments listed here. The library itself is above average, the staff is exceptional, and the neighborhood is questionable. There is a homeless presence in front of the library. My heart goes out to homeless people, especially those people who are trying to better themselves with the library resources, however when drug dealers are present, it becomes a dangerous situation for children. Do not let your kids go to this library branch unattended. Perhaps a police presence should be more readily available. I've seen two arrests made in front of the library. If there is a no loitering statute, then it is needs to be more strongly enforced by the local law enforcement . In my opinion, as an adult, this is a well located, well staffed, well needed resource...
