I had a very positive experience with PMI Denver, I took the Sterile Processing course with Mr.Heisey and though we did not get very much face time (thanks covid), the time we did have on campus was extremely hands-on and interactive. The labs were challenging but very enjoyable and the instructor was very high spirited and helpful. Overall, I recommend this school and course for anyone who has an interest in sterile processing, instrumentation, or instrument sterilization.
UPDATE: NEURO-DIVERSE STUDENTS BEWARE! Now that I’ve had some time to step away from my experience going through the Sterile Processing Program at PIMA Denver I have a lot to say. The curriculum itself was very straight forward and detailed, however the equipment at the school is very out of date, from sterilizers that do not actually work to non-functional AERs. During my externship I had a very negative experience with my site and radio silence with my instructor for 7/10 weeks and felt extremely alone when I became overwhelmed with my treatment at my site. When I became emotional because I was without guidance for an extended period of time and became micromanaged by the staff, Dustin tried to talk to me about seeking out therapy while essentially gaslighting me into believing he visited several times during my externship as well as him “returning my email” regarding my distress several weeks after the fact. (At the end of this externship the staff didn’t even fill out the amount of times he had visited because they too were unsure of how often he was actually there. He told me he had been there on 3-5 different occasions but marked down that he had only been there twice on my paperwork -my first week after having a run in with the staff regarding them throwing away non-biohazard labeled bags filled with blood that was put in the civilian trash cans and 8 weeks in when Dustin told me I should consider seeing a therapist after I became tearful talking to him about the 7 weeks I was basically discarded. After my externship was over I thanked the staff, brought cookies and told them I was grateful and that I hoped my mistakes would help better their department, however the staff took this as an insult and brought this to Dustin who sat me in the classroom and demanded that I tell him what I had said. While explaining myself I became flustered and he reinforced how my emotional attempt to stand up for myself was unnerving to others and that I should not make unwanted comments. After this when I returned for my exit interview another student and I were brought in to leave 2 reviews, one on google and one on yelp before we were allowed to leave the campus (though the other student was on zoom). There were certainly things I struggled with throughout my externship that I was able to correct as I went forward, but my treatment as a neuro-diverse student was less than acceptable during the externship period and for most of the time after the fact. I would recommend you go elsewhere if you are looking for medical education; I owe 15,500$+ for this program, 4/9 months of my education were focused on the field I was interested in and studying. I would not have made this updated review if I weren’t truly unsettled by my experience with the sterile processing program., steer clear if you are anything but...
Read moreMy experience at Pima was definitely an experience. I was in the SPD program with Ms.Tammika. During career prep, the instructor Ms.Tanya, had a disagreement with us about a math equation. I can’t remember all the details, but at one point she told the student who demonstrated the answer that we ALL came up with that it was wrong, there could’ve been an easier way to go around that. Before that, she took another student out of the classroom all because she didn’t like the way this student asked a question. It was a simple question that didn’t have any attitude or anything behind it, which again the rest of the class didn’t think this student was disrespectful in any way, but Ms.Tanya had thought the opposite. We thought that that wasn’t a reason to stop class if the student wasn’t being disrespectful. Then once I got to my actual program focused classes it seemed like a mess. My first instructor did what they could, but the material wasn’t taught in a way that a couple of my peers and I didn’t understand. Then we were given the news that this instructor was leaving the school, and personally during that time it felt like the instructor didn’t care because they were leaving so we weren’t being taught as we could’ve been, which again I said this is something I personally felt, we transitioned to a new instructor, that being Ms. Tammika. When it came time for lectures, quizzes, finals, demonstrations, etc., students outside of the classroom seemed to dismiss that and were loud most of the time while my classmates and I couldn’t focus on our learning. The same goes for other instructors and staff, constantly coming into the classroom to almost keep it an eye on Ms.Tammika it seemed. Which in a way I felt was disrespectful, as instructors and staff who are supposed to guide us why are you interrupting another class? Ms.Tammika is changing the way these externship sites think of Pima students, she’s gotten these sites to change their minds from a no to a yes when it comes to taking students. My group that went out was her first group to go out, and we all got job offers within two weeks, with some sites saying that we would make amazing leads in the future. I’m going to end with saying that I also feel as if Ms.Tammika has given so much to this school just for it to not give anything to her, that’s not fair given what she’s done she has proof of her hard work and dedication, it’s in us her students, and Pima just cannot see that, which makes my experience a...
Read moreLike every school their is always some flaws, the first month class that everyone takes is supper fast paced and honestly so challenging but believe me that was the only intimating class I’ve took here. Again its 4 courses in the mater of 4 hours and you have a test every other day for each course.Thankfully their is a great teacher named Ms.Tiajah that will give out the help that is wanted for this class even letting us stay late after class during her lunch to help before her night classes! I am talking the SPT program and love my instructor! Ms.Tammika dose above and beyond for her students, she fixed all our courses for this program and made alot of study guides for us on our test. Honestly some of the premade test from years before where so incorrect for our courses even the answer we had to study for our test were wrong compared to the STATE EXAM. They had a surg tech make our program… someone who dose not even know what we do that should explain for its self.😐 Thankfully again Ms.Tammika actually informed us of the correct content we should be studying for in our field of work . She dont only look out for us in school but as well as on our extern and assures of our saftey and comfort during our hours. She is very understanding with her students and our home situations she dont treat us like students but family! Its never just class we always get to do fun active activitys to help us get more hands on training and not just read...
