I went here twice a year for 25 years with my dad and grandma. In a family that largely dislikes seafood, this was our bond. We always ordered the same thing: full order of shrimp & chips for me and grandma, half order of fish and half order of shrimp for my dad. Extra cocktail sauce, three root beers. This is a place most people wouldn't go unless they know, but in the slang of Gen Z: IYKYK. We watched the owners' hard-working kids come in and get handed the reins. The quality never faltered.
After I moved to California, I scoured the coast and only found one joint that could even call itself worthy of Yorkshire's shadow. Every other place were these tourist traps decorated in schmaltzy trash like Union Jack flags, newspapers, and red telephone booths. The food was absolutely terrible. I had to save my craving for shrimp and chips for my trips home to Denver.
My dad and grandma passed away within 2 months of each other in 2021, and I didn't know how I could ever go back to this place. Every time I thought of Yorkshire in the last three years, it crushed me. I can still remember our final visit: December 2020. My dad was too sick to get out of the house the next year.
I finally returned this year with my husband and sister-in-law. They were both skeptical because they felt some businesses in the area seemed a little sketchy. It is one of the neglected areas of Adams County. Sure, it's not exactly the same kinda place where my parents grew up. All I could say was, "Trust me." It was my first meal there in over three years, but it was every bit as delicious as the last time I was here. They fell in love with the food immediately. Here's to more biannual trips to Yorkshire,...
Read moreAmazing sood and service, but more expensive with reasonable portions. 15+ years of enjoying the food served here. Only a few flukes in that time period but nothing to keep me from coming back. I usually go with the combo with a half sized order of mushrooms. And is perfect for someone with an appetite like mine. I'd give 4.6 if that was possible.
TLDR; Don't trust anything less than 3 star reviews if you're gauging what your experience will be here if it is your first time at Yorkshire or thinking of coming back after a long hiatus.
I'm normally a reader of reviews rather than writing them. Having recently moved back from Dallas after living there for ~1.5 years, this was one of the first places I stopped to eat at upon arriving back here in CO. And it was heaven. Easily better than anything similar I can remember from my time in Texas. With the service to match, despite the restrictions due to Covid-19. I had to look up the address on google to make sure my memory hadn't gone bad and was appalled by some of the 1-2 star reviews. After my visit, I was very skeptical and read more of them. As someone who worked in the food service industry, a lot of them made my BS meter go off. Don't trust anything below 3 stars, 4.0-4.5 is truly where this place is at. My guess for a lot of the bad reviews keeping this place from being higher, is a niche group of mouth breathing Karens, people who refuse to wear masks, those that try to complain to get more food/free food that fail, and lastly those that don't know what they are talking about. If your first time turns out to be bad, be respectful to the staff and they will take care of you, anytime you order from here for...
Read more1st off parking is tight. If you have a large vehicle forget it. Someone dinged my driver's door there and you guessed it... didnt leave a note. Beyond that you walk in and there are no menus. You can only look at some flat screen TVs that are behind the ordering counter. This is inconvenient as if people are behind you in line you feel pressured to order fast. Another downside (upside for the biz owner) of no menu is that there are no photos or descriptions of the food. Next, it's not a restaurant where you are served; you serve yourself. Like a carnival food stand. Yet they have a tip jar up front which is annoying. Seating is barely roomy enough but adequate. Tables and decor is of the 1970s motel lobby style. Not a bad thing but is oppressive when added to other downsides mentioned above. Food is good but a tad on the bland side if there was a scale. Fish is hot and seems cooked and fresh enough but the chips are subpar sadly. Cole slaw is same as fish and chips, well prepared and fresh but again more on the bland side. Tarter sauce also seems fresh and is good but mild and more drab than exciting. For the most part 3 stars/fair rating not BAD or poor but needs work. A good cleaning and fresh paint and a much larger TV in the dining area would really really help. I did like the classic paintings with sailing themes very much. Also the staff was helpful and polite. Compred to their Fish and chip competition in Arvada (which I rate overall 4 stars) they are not far behind. Would I go again? Maybe. Price...
