Edit - 1/23/24 We attended this gym for around 6 years, and loved it until fairly recently. I had to pull my daughter from classes this past summer due to circumstances beyond our control, but we had made a plan to pay for private lessons to maintain her skills until the next competition season, where we were going to re-test to see if she still had the skills needed for team. However, once we began our temporary leave, communication ceased. We were never able to arrange for private lessons, and when I reached out to ask if/when she could test for team, we were told that she would "be a better fit for rec". This despite competing for several years with the team prior, and an understanding that she would be trying out for the team again this year. I wouldn't be upset if we were told this after she tried out and her skills had gone down, but we were told this after the gym completely reneged on their agreement for what our temporary leave would look like. 5280 used to be a great gym. But a revolving door of coaches (at least at the Xcel level), couple with the horrible attitudes of the āhigher upsā have really negatively impacted this gym and the quality of instruction the kids get. Itās a great gym for DP level, but anything elseāIād go somewhere else.
I just finished reading all of the reviews 5280 Gymnastics has (on here and on another review site), and thought I'd throw in my two cents. My daughter is 3 years old and in the preschool program with Coach Calvin. He is young but is amazing with the littles. My daughter adores him and she has learned so much in the 3-4 months since we've started here. Previously, she attended a different gym and skills were not fostered like they are at 5280 Gymnastics.
Next: The place is dusty; it is not dirty like I've seen it implied elsewhere. I'm not sure you can expect a place that takes gymnastics seriously and has so many participants in an open floor plan building to not be dusty from chalk. Apart from the chalk dust, the place is well cared for and clean.
Office/Office staff: We had a hiccup the first time they closed (for Memorial Day) and we weren't notified. The following week I stopped into the office and politely let them know about how we weren't notified, and she apologized and made sure she had all of our contact information input correctly into the system. Now we receive emails and phone calls when there is a closure of any kind. We've never had a billing issue, and it's easy to pay online. The office staff even informed us they'll start taking credit cards soon, which may make things even easier with regards to payment options.
My daughter has had a couple of substitutes: one when her normal coach was out of town and twice when we had scheduled makeups. The girls who taught her class were respectful and worked well with the kids. The only criticism I have is that while Coach Calvin uses the technical terms for what he has the kids do, the other two coaches used "cutesy" names and my daughter was a little lost/confused for a second each time because of that.
Their pricing is competitive with other gyms; in fact, we're paying a few dollars less each month for higher-quality instruction than we were paying at our previous gym.
My last point is for the seating. While it's true there isn't much seating (and the seating that does exist is up in the loft area, though you can look down on the whole gymnasium from there), I've never struggled to find a place to sit. Perhaps it's the day/time that we come? Maybe we've just been lucky? Whatever it is, I can't speak to the lack of seating comments I've seen in other reviews. We've never had a problem.
I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone who has a child interested in gymnastics and you want to foster that love. They'll learn a lot while having fun at...
Ā Ā Ā Read more5280 Gymnastics is an amazing world class facility! Thatās right, not just in the USA, but the world! This gym already produced a couple elite Olympians including Alexander (Sasha) Artemev (Bronze medalist champion from Beijing, 2008) and 2021Tokyo hopeful, Yul Moldauer!
My two boys have been members of this gym for a few years now- one is on the competitive team, the other enjoys the recreational practices! It is definitely a kid approved gym! Both boys love their coaches and enjoy their practices! It is really rewarding to watch them grow and constantly improve their gymnastics skills with a smile on their face.
The coaches are awesome! They are friendly, professional and they truly care for our athletes with all their hearts. It is noticeable they feel it is not only their profession, but itās their passion too! They know how much to push and challenge a kid to get them to the next level of skill. It is done with such finesse, that the children do not even notice. Basically, it feels like each athlete experiences an individually ātailoredā program, based on their needs and progress. Coaches are not only training them gymnastics skills, but also incorporating values such as respect, integrity, humility, team work, and determination. They are always encouraging and inspiring. My sons are stronger, flexible, more focused and disciplined because of 5280 Gymnastics. This gym made us feel like we were at our second home from day one!
From a practical stand point, the gym offers an online access to stream our children's class during their practice from anywhere - that is an amazing feature! Also, there is Wifi at the facility, which is a great perk for working parents, if they have to sit and wait for the class to finish.
I've recommended this gym to my friends whose children have joined and they love it too! If anyone is looking for a healthy after-school activity for their kids, this is the place!
Finally, a noteworthy fact is 5280 Gymnastics trained many athletes (boys and girls) who were recruited and awarded college gymnastics full ride scholarships.
With the new times now of COVID-19, 5280 Gymnastics is very āsterileāand compliant with all the health departments recommendations. All precautionary measures are implemented and not limited to checking temperatures daily, provide constantly hand sanitizers, daily cleanings and...
Ā Ā Ā Read more(5280 North review) Do not take your 4 year-old here for preschool classes unless you want their confidence destroyed. My daughter was here for about 3 months with Coach Alyncia, mid. feb.2021-may 2021. My child was always being yelled at by her, and my daughter is a sweet girl, who has no issues at her regular preschool. In fact all the children were always being yelled at, (I knew all their names, they were yelled at so often. I also saw many kids come and go). Coach Alynica looks miserable the whole time while she teaches and seems very frustrated with the kids.
Coach's would also make kids sit on a wall to listen to long instructions, kids would get bored and become sidetracked, then they would get yelled at, when its the coach's fault in the first place for poor classroom management skills. My daughter was also yelled at for not doing all the moves correctly, very strict on the kids and also not big on letting them make friends, or have fun, these are 4 year olds!!!!!! I then switched my daughter to coach Taylor's class instead. Well first day coach Taylor PUNISHED my daughter for not listening and didn't let her jump on the trampoline (this was the last straw). My daughter was very upset, crying hysterically and did not understand why she was the only one who didn't get to jump. Coach Taylor did not even give her the time of day to make this situation right or explain things to her.
I tried two different coaches because I was very unhappy with the first one... well the second one was just as bad. Mostly, all the coaches are bad, the only good one from hearsay apparently is Hannah and her class is full. The rest need to learn to teach better. Stay away from this gym!!!!!! They don't know what the hell they are doing when it comes to teaching young kids, nor do they care about giving your child an awesome experience. Its like they slapped this class together, so they can generate more income and don't care who is qualified or not. I looked at their job posting for preschool coach recently on their website and under qualifications it says there are none, they will teach you, something so wrong about this. Preschoolers can be very hard to teach and having someone with zero experience with kids teach a whole classroom seems very wrong to me. DO NOT COME...
